Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device for coding a video data stream that a mobile communication system can efficiently transmit the video data stream. SOLUTION: The method and device for coding a video data stream in the GPRS, EDGE or UMTS system and performing a real time video service includes a step where one of a small number, e.g. 4 channel coding rates applicable to video in a prescribed way is selected, a step where the rate is applied to video data in the application layer, and a step where the data are transmitted to a mobile system via a wireless interface together with a header and a temporary flow indicator denoting the selected coding rate. Employing a short header can increase the video payload capacity. One of the prescribed channel coding rates is a 1/1 rate, that is, a transparent rate.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data transmission system whose polling efficiency is enhanced. SOLUTION: A base station of a mobile phone network has a control unit that generates a series of data packets to be sent to all mobile phones through a common downlink. Each data packet has a header including a 1st selection phone identification flag, polls the phones identified by the flag and allows the phones to return to the base station through a common channel. The header also includes a 2nd selection phone identification flag and an identification ID and a time slot, polls the phones identified by the flag and allows the mobile phones to return to the base station through a common channel thereby attaining to poll at least two phones. The control unit polls each phone twice for each polling cycle, one polling includes the identification ID of a 2nd standby uplink channel and a time slot with respect to the channel and the other polling does not include them.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method or decoding an uplink status flag(USF) in a radio communication service. SOLUTION: This method for decoding an uplink status flag having reduced interleaving depth in an RLC/MAC block in a GPRS, supplies all uplink status flags to an RT-EGPRS user in the first burst of four bursts, nine bits of the uplink status flag to the EGPRS user in the first burst of the RLC/MAC block and also the rest bit in the next three bursts. A mobile performs autocorrelation on receiving the first nine bits and confirms whether a USF belongs to a EGPRS group or an RT-EGPRS group.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the polling rate in a data transmission system (e.g. mobile telephone network) having a base station and a plurality of satellite stations. SOLUTION: The all transmitters of the base station and all receivers of the satellite stations are tuned to the same downlink channel, all the transmitters of the satellite stations and all the receivers of the base station are tuned to a common uplink channel and at least one auxiliary uplink channel. The base station has a control means that generates a series of data packets and transmits the packets to the satellites. Each data packet has a header and a payload. In the header, the configuration and length are variable, and the header includes a 1st uplink state flag 12 for identifying a 1st selected satellite, at least one 2nd uplink state flag 14 for identifying a 2nd selected satellite, the identification 18 of the auxiliary uplink channel and a time slot 16.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a packet exchange cellular radio communication hand-over system that can provide excellent QoS to RT transmission during hand-over in a GPRS and an EGPRS. SOLUTION: A cellular wireless communication system realizes hand-over of wireless transmission between a mobile station 32 and a cell of a network into wireless transmission between the cell of the network and other cell. The mobile station 32 has operation modes relating to the network as follows (a); a mobile station control autonomous re-selection mode where no measurement result is reported to the network, (b); mobile station control autonomous cell re-selection mode where the report of measurement result is transmitted to the network, (c); a network control cell re-selection mode where the mobile station reports the measurement result to the network, and (d); a network control real time cell selection mode where the mobile station reports the measurement result to the network. In the mode (c), the mobile station 32 can transmit a packet cell revision request message to the network in response to a local standard.

Abstract: A method of encoding at least two sets of data bits into a single encoded block is provided, wherein each set of data bits includes a primary set of bits to be encoded and a secondary set of bits to remain unencoded, wherein the encoding technique requires a set of code terminating bits to be added to the primary set of bits, the method comprising: combining the two sets of primary bits; and encoding the combined two sets of primary bits, whereby one set of code terminating bits is added to the combined two sets of primary bits. The two sets of data bits may each include a header portion and a payload portion, the payload portion comprising encoded speech. The encoding step may be a channel encoding step for encoding the at least two sets of data bits for transmission on a packet switched network. The data bits may be for transmission on an EDGE packet switched network, wherein the at least two sets of data bits are encoded into a single RLC/MAC block.
