Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for improving a method for determining the color group of an LED emitting white light.
SOLUTION: A CIE color space is partitioned using a mesh having two groups of intersecting mesh lines. Since one group is determined by the line of Judd while the other group is determined by a line for the color position of the radiator of Planck and a line belonging to a predetermined deviation of threshold value, a large number of meshes are formed by the mesh lines. Color position of the LED is then located and a mesh where the color position of the LED is present is located before the LED is assigned to the color group of that mesh.

The space may be marked with five Judd lines (1), corresponding to color temperatures of 3000, 4500, 5750, 7000 and 9500 degrees K. The Judd lines are crossed by seven lines of constant color saturation (3) ranging from Deltac = -30 SWE to Deltac = 30 SWE. A line (2) marks the characteristic of a Planck radiator in the CIE standard color space. There is a further line of constant color saturation (3a).
