    Abstract: Techniques for retransmitting data via RLP in a CDMA (e.g., cdma2000) system with a first retransmission mechanism provided by the RLP and a second retransmission mechanism provided by an HARQ-CF. In one method, missing RLP frames are first detected (e.g., by a receiver RLP). A dynamic timer is then maintained (e.g., by a receiver HARQ-CF) for each RLP frame detected to be missing. The dynamic timers are event-driven and have variable time durations. Each dynamic timer is updated based on events known to the receiver HARQ-CF. Fixed timers with fixed time durations may also be maintained (e.g., by the receiver RLP) for the missing RLP frames. Whether or not a missing RLP frame is lost is determined based on the dynamic timer and the fixed timer (if any) maintained for the RLP frame. A NAK may be issued for retransmission of each RLP frame deemed to be lost.

    Abstract: In a communication system (100), a method and apparatus provides for message integrity regardless of the operating version of an authentication center (198) or an interface (197) between the authentication center (198) and a mobile switching center (199). The method and apparatus include generating a cellular message encryption algorithm (CMEA) key, and generating a CMEA-key-derived integrity key (CIK) based on the CMEA key for message integrity between a mobile station and a base station. The mobile station transmits a registration message to the base station, and determines an operating version of the authentication center (198) in communication with the base station based on whether the mobile station receives a registration accepted order or some elements of an authentication vector from the base station. The CIK is generated based on the CMEA key, if the mobile station receives a valid registration accepted order from the base station.

    Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate employing periodi c closed loop power control corrections in a wireless communication environm ent. A periodic power control command can be sent over a downlink to control and/or correct an uplink power level employed by an access terminal. Each p eriodic power control command can be generated based upon an uplink periodic transmission sent from the access terminal. The periodic power control comm ands can be communicated via a Physical Downlink Control Channel (PDCCH) or in-band signaling. Moreover, access terminals can be grouped to enhance effi ciency of downlink transfer of the periodic power control commands. The peri odic power control commands can be halted upon access terminal uplink resour ces being deallocated. For instance, these resources can be deallocated afte r an inactivity period of the access terminal. Thereafter, the access termin al can initiate random access (e.g., leveraging open loop mechanisms) to res ume periodic power control command transmission.

    Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate operating an access terminal in an LTE based wireless communication environment utilizing extended microsleep. While in non-DRX mode, an access terminal can operate in on state for a first period of time and in extended microsleep state for a second period of time. Further, the first and second periods of time can form a repeating pattern where these periods of time alternate. Thus, the access terminal can turn on its receiver for the first period of time (e.g., decode downlink information while in on state) and turn off its receiver for the second period of time (e.g., inhibit decoding of downlink information while in extended microsleep state). Further, the first period of time in the repeating pattern can be one TTI (e.g., 1 ms) and the second period of time in the repeating pattern can be a plurality of TTIs (e.g., 5 ms).
