Abstract: La invención se refiere a un aparato para controlar la potencia de una transmisión de circuito cerrado en un sistema de comunicación móvil. Sonconocidos aparatos para la transmisión de comunicaciones en sistemas de comunicación digitald onde es posible reducir la energía cuando la velocidadde los datos es menor que el máximo predeterminado dentro de un ciclo. A los efectos de controlar la energía de transmisión la invención propone un aparatodonde una estación móvilproporciona i nformación sobre la calidad de la información recibida desde la estación base, y la estación base respondeajustando el poder adjudicado a ese usuario en una senal compartida de la estación base. La potencia de latransmisión se ajusta i nicialmente mediante ungran incremento y luego es bajada a una velocidad creciente de descenso. La estación móvil, además, proporciona información a la estación base acerca de surelativa velocidad y la estación baseajusta su transmisión de acuer do con esta velocidad de información.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for coordinating the time at which a mobile station (5) performs searches for alternative systems to which a hard handoff will occur. In one system which includes the present invention, the mobile station (5) receives a command which instructs the mobile station (5) as to when to tune to alternative frequencies in order to search for indications of the presence of an alternative system. In another system which includes the present invention, predetermined times are defined with respect to a reference point in time that is common to both an origination base station (10) and a mobile station (5). The mobile station (5) tunes to alternative frequencies to perform searches only during these predetermined times. In addition, the mobile station (5) coordinates the transmission of reports which indicate the results of searches for alternative systems such that these reports are only transmitted from the mobile station (5) when the mobile station (5) is tuned to the origination frequency.

Abstract: Systems and techniques are disclosed relating to communications. The systems and techniques involve dividing a plurality of subscriber stations into a plurality of groups, assigning a different plurality of orthogonal codes to each of the groups, the number of the orthogonal codes assigned to one of th e groups being less than the number of subscriber stations in said one of the groups, encoding communications to one of the subscriber stations in said on e of the groups at a data rate, and determining whether to spread at least a portion of communications to said to one of the subscriber stations with one of the orthogonal codes assigned to said one of the groups as a function of the data rate.

Abstract: A method and system for transmitting digital data by extending the sequence numbering range for a selective repeat transmission protocol are described. In accordance with one embodiment of the invention, data frames (70) are transmitted including an eight-bit sequence number (72) and a one-bit retransmit flag (74). The one-bit retransmit flag (74) indicates whether the frame is newly transmitted or retransmitted due to a failed first transmission. Transmit (50) and receive (52) systems each maintain a twelve-bit sequence number referred to as a "long sequence number" comprised of the eight-bit sequence number transmitted with each frame and a four-bit extension. The long sequence number is transmitted within a control frame (82) and the eight-bit sequence number is transmitted within the data frame (72).
