Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may transmit a random access preamble to a base station as part of a two-step random access procedure. The UE may generate the preamble by identifying a discrete Fourier transform (DFT) matrix and generating a set of sequences based on the DFT matrix. Each sequence of the set of sequences may be generated by selecting a column of the DFT matrix and performing deterministic sampling of respective entries from the selected column in accordance with a sampling function. The UE may then select a sequence from the set of sequences based on generating the set of sequence. The UE may transmit the selected sequence to a wireless device (e.g., a base station).

Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for a hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) procedure for the random access channel (RACH) response message in a two-step RACH procedure. A method that may be performed by a user equipment (UE) includes sending a RACH message to a base station (BS) during a two-step RACH procedure, the RACH message comprising a RACH preamble and a RACH payload. The UE monitors a RACH response message from the BS during a random access response (RAR) window and transmits a retransmission of the RACH message, an acknowledgement (ACK) to the RACH response message, a negative acknowledgment (NACK) to the RACH response message, or not transmitting (DTX), to the BS based on whether a RACH response message carrying a success RAR or fallback RAR, or no RACH response message, is received from the BS during the RAR window.

Abstract: Aspects described herein relate to configuring and selecting preamble and payload occasions for performing two-step random access procedures. Configurations on preamble occasions, payload occasions, association pattern between the occasions and synchronization signal block (SSB) beams, and the rules for selecting preamble and payload occasions for random access message transmission can be determined by the network and signaled to user equipment (UE). Based on the configurations and rules, UE can measure the link level quality and select possible preamble and payload occasions for one or more SSB beams achieving a threshold signal quality. Sets of one or more preamble occasions and one or more payload occasions can be further determined based on whether the preamble and payload occasion (s) can achieve a threshold transmission latency. The one or more preamble occasions and one or more payload occasions can be used to transmit random access messages in the two-step random access procedure.

A base station may identify at least one user equipment that supports single-code transmissions, transmit a scheduling message having a cyclic redundancy check (CRC) scrambled with a radio network temporary identifier (RNTI), wherein the scheduling message schedules the at least one user equipment for communication on resources using coding associated with the single-code transmissions and communicate with the at least one user equipment on the resources using the coding.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may determine to bundle or not bundle demodulation reference signals (DMRS) of multiple downlink data transmissions using an indication from a base station. The indication may be transmitted via control signaling, such as downlink control information (DCI) from the base station to the UE. For example, a bit of the DCI may be used to dynamically indicate a current precoding in relation to a preceding precoding. For example, the bit may indicate if the current precoding is the same as a previous precoding (e.g., UE may bundle the DMRS), or the bit may indicate that the current precoding is different than the previous precoding (e.g., UE may not bundle DMRS).

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may report measurements of a signal transmitted by a base station via a waveform. Based on the waveform, the base station may determine a position of the UE. The UE may measure the signal in a frequency band, where additional signaling in an adjacent frequency band causes interference on the signal. The UE may determine characteristics for measuring the signal based on the interference and may generate samples of the signal based on the measurement characteristics. Additionally, the UE may identify one or more antennas for measuring the signal and generate the samples based on the identified antennas. The UE may transmit the waveform report to the base station based on the samples. In some cases, the waveform may be based on a fractional symbol reporting scheme or a time mask with an offset and sampling rate.

Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus for determining a target base station timing advance value between a user equipment (UE) and target base station in connection with a random access channel (RACH)-less handover procedure. In one aspect, the UE may determine the target base stations timing advance based at least in part on a timing difference between the target base station and the source base station and based at least in part on a timing offset associated with an uplink and a downlink of the UE. In some aspects, the target base station may determine the timing advance using an uplink reference signal of the UE. In some aspects, the UE may report a timing difference between the target base station and the source base station, and the source cell may determine a timing advance based at least in part on the timing difference.

Abstract: This disclosure provides methods, devices, and systems for multi-level configuration and reporting for positioning in new radio (NR) wireless communications systems. In some wireless communications systems, a network entity may determine a position or location of a supported user equipment (UE) using radio access network information. The information may be associated with UE-assisted positioning techniques, such as a positioning reference signal (PRS) transmission by the base station and reporting of radio signaling measurements by the UE. The UE may support a multi-level configuration for reporting the radio signaling measurements, including determined report quantities on one or more of a resource level, a set level, or a setting level for the PRS transmission, or generally for the network entity. The described techniques may improve robustness associated with the reporting and, in some examples, reduce signaling overhead associated with determining a positioning and location of the UE.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. In some systems, a user equipment (UE) may transmit feedback to a base station indicating phase values for sub-bands in a bandwidth part (BWP). The base station may use the phase feedback to perform precoding on a set of beams. To support a reduced payload overhead for the feedback, the UE may implement differential phase feedback. For example, the UE may divide the BWP into a number of sub-band groups and may generate, for each sub-band group of each beam, a first set of bits indicating an absolute phase value for a first sub-band of the sub-band group. The UE may additionally generate a second set of bits indicating differential phase values for the other sub-bands of each sub-band group. The UE may report the first and second sets of bits for the beams to the base station for precoding.
