Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide a circuit capable of generating control pulse trains in various operating conditions by using one specified bit counter for both of a normally operating condition and a one-operation time reset condition. CONSTITUTION: An input part receives three types of signals, a signal CLOCK, a signal RESET and a signal PULSE. The signal CLOCK is input to a frequency: division 4 to generate two frequency signals. A counter: 50M2 is provided with a counter 2A to generate a signal SX with the second frequency, which is a quick clock time reset pulse basic signal SX with high and low logic conditions. A multiplexer MUX 3 selectively sends both of a quick time reset signal SX and a slow time reset signal SN as the functions of a signal SECS to an output part S1 or S2 in a circuit. A counter: 11 bit 1 receives the signal PULSE, the signal RESET, the signal QSX and the first frequency signal to selectively control the reversion of a current in a clock motor.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drive circuit for voice coil motor that ensures high accuracy in the position of a read/write head in track following mode. SOLUTION: A control circuit is provided with a first and a second class AB amplifiers. The outputs of the class AB amplifiers are connected with a terminal of a first resistor in series with a voice coil motor so that current will be passed through the voice coil motor and the first resistor. The circuit is provided with a sense amplifier the input terminal of which is coupled with the terminal of the first resistor; and a device at the input of which there is a signal equivalent to the sum of an external signal and an output signal of the sense amplifier. The control circuit drives the first amplifier and the second amplifier in a phase inverted by an output signal generated by the above device. A second resistor is placed in series with the first resistor so that the above current will be passed through the first and the second resistors in series. The sense amplifier is provided with a means for including an input terminal coupled with the terminals of the resistors in series.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To detect a malfunction of a drive circuit without impeding a normal operation of the drive circuit by directly connecting a malfunction detector with an output terminal of the drive circuit. CONSTITUTION: A malfunction detecting circuit 10 comprises an input terminal 3 connected with an output terminal 4 of a drive circuit 1, an output terminal 20 for feeding a digital signal which indicates a connecting condition between the drive circuit 1 and a load 5, and a detector for detecting when a malfunction occurs between the drive circuit 1 and the load 5. When a control signal IN is switched to an L level, a delay circuit 24 generates an output pulse which operates a transistor 23. In this manner, irrespective of the value of a voltage V1 , the output terminal 20 is grounded so that an output of the AND circuit becomes the L level. When the pulse generated by the delay circuit 24 is terminated, the transistor 23 is turned off. Since an output terminal of a comparator 15 can be switched to a logic condition which corresponds to a level of a voltage V1 , an output terminal of a circuit 25 generates an H signal at the time of occurrence of the malfunction and generates an L signal when the load 5 is connected. The type of malfunction can be identified by a malfunction identifying circuit 12.

Abstract: The present invention refers to a method for detecting the position of a rotor of a DC motor and to the relative circuit. According to an embodiment the method for detecting the position of a rotor of a DC motor (SM) with N phases having a plurality of windings (AV1, AV2, AV3), comprising the steps of: connecting at least two of said windings (AV1, AV2, AV3) between a first (Vcc) and a second (Gnd) prefixed voltage according to a first current path for a prefixed time (Tact); allowing the current stored in said two windings (AV1, AV2, AV3) to discharge through a second current path; comparing the voltage at the ends of one of said two windings (AV1, AV2, AV3) with a third prefixed voltage and providing a control signal when said voltage is smaller in absolute value than said third prefixed voltage; performing the above steps for each of the winding (AV1, AV2, AV3) couples of said motor (SM); detecting the position of said rotor on the base of the control signals obtained.

Abstract: A control circuit providing a driving current to a voice coil motor to position a reading and writing head of a disk memory system is described. The circuit comprises a first and a second class AB amplifiers the outputs of which are connected to the terminals of a first resistor in series with the voice coil motor so that a current passes through the voice coil motor and through the first resistor. The circuit comprises a sense amplifier the input terminals of which are coupled with the terminals of said first resistor, a device at the input of which is present a signal which is a sum of an external signal and of an output signal of the sense amplifier. The first amplifier and the second amplifier being driven in inverted phase by an output signal produced by the device. The circuit comprises means for inserting a second resistor in series with the first resistor so that said current passes through the series of said first and said second resistors and so that said sense amplifier has the input terminals coupled with the terminals of said series of resistors.

Abstract: A drive circuit fault detection device comprising an discriminating circuit (10) generating a digital signal, the level of which indicates a fault; and an identifying circuit (12) generating a binary-coded signal (F1, F2) indicating the type of fault, i.e. ground shorting of the drive circuit (1) or an open load (5).
