Abstract: Eine Vorrichtung und ein Verfahren zum elektrooptischen Lesen von in einer Arbeitsstation, wie zum Beispiel einer Doppelfenster-Arbeitsstation, arbiträr ausgerichteten Zielen, die mit einer Festkörper-Bildgabevorrichtung zum Auffangen von zurückgeworfenem Licht von den Zielen über ein Sichtfeld arbeiten. Die Bildgabevorrichtung hat eine Gruppierung von Sensoren, die entlang zueinander senkrecht verlaufender Gruppierungsachsen angeordnet sind. Ein optisches System teilt die Sichtfelder in mehrere Teilsichtfelder, die sich durch ein Arbeitsstationsfenster zu einem Ziel erstrecken. Ein Teilfeld ist optisch dafür konfiguriert, es der Bildgabevorrichtung zu ermöglichen, Licht von dem Ziel entlang einer Gruppierungsachse aufzufangen. Ein weiteres Teilfeld ist optisch dafür konfiguriert, es der Bildgabevorrichtung zu ermöglichen, Licht von dem Ziel entlang der anderen Gruppierungsachse aufzufangen. Ein Controller verarbeitet das aufgefangene Licht sowohl in dem einen als auch in dem anderen Teilfeld, um das Lesen des arbiträr ausgerichteten Ziels in der Arbeitsstation unabhängig von der Ziel-Ausrichtung relativ zu den Gruppierungsachsen zu ermöglichen.

Abstract: An apparatus for and method of electro-optically reading targets arbitrarily oriented in a workstation, such as a dual window workstation, employs a solid-state imager for capturing return light from the targets over a field of view. The imager has an array of sensors arranged along mutually perpendicular array axes. An optical system splits the field of view into a plurality of subfields of view that extend through a workstation window to a target. One subfield is optically configured to enable the imager to capture light from the target along one array axis. Another subfield is optically configured to enable the imager to capture light from the target along the other array axis. A controller processes the captured light in both the one and the other subfields to enable the reading of the arbitrarily oriented target in the workstation independently of target orientation relative to the array axes.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for expediting self-checkout at a point-of-sale station, employ a mobile electronic device, e.g., a cellular phone, held and operated by each customer. The device images one-dimensional symbols identifying items to be purchased, decodes the one-dimensional symbols to form decoded data, combines the decoded data to form one or more two-dimensional symbols, and displays each two-dimensional symbol on a display screen. Each displayed two-dimensional symbol is presented to a window of an electro-optical scanner at the point-of-sale station. The scanner images and decodes each displayed two-dimensional symbol to form a series of decoded data indicative of all the one-dimensional symbols, and sends the series of decoded data to a host network.

Abstract: A bi-optical, dual window, point-of-transaction workstation images indicia associated with multi-sided products over a full coverage scan zone by splitting each field of view of only two imagers into three subfields that pass through each window and fill the scan zone and minimize dead areas therein. Twisting of the subfields relative to the windows is minimized so that the subfields fit fully with minimal clipping through each window. Splitting of each field of view is remotely performed well away from each imager. The imagers have lens assemblies of substantially the same optical power and are spaced from their respective windows by substantially the same distance.

Abstract: A wireless mobile device with a camera, 10, (e.g. a mobile phone, smartphone, cell phone or PDA) is adapted to function as an electro-optical reader to read targets such as barcodes and QR codes. A housing, 24, for the mobile phone has walls bounding an interior in which the mobile is held. A mirror, 32, is fitted to the housing such that the field of view, 22, of the camera is folded to be perpendicular to its original FOV. The housing may have walls extending along all four edges and the rear face. The mirror may also reflect light from the mobile phones flash unit. The mirror may be fixed at an acute angle relative to the rear face. The housing may be adapted to feature a handle, 36, with a trigger, 38, in the form of a pistol grip. The scanning may be initiated by either an optical or acoustic trigger signal.
