Abstract: PURPOSE: To advance the state of the technique of a scanner, especially a slot scanner and a desk-top work station. CONSTITUTION: These device and method stop the scanner 10 after a prescribed time when no mark is read by the scanner 10 and energize the scanner 10 thereafter. A shadow photosensor 60 operated so as to detect the intensity change of ambient light at the part of a window 18 for scanning and re-energize the scanner 10 by the detection is provided on the part of the window 18 for scanning.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To use this device in various modes such as hand holding and arm holding by constituting a scanning module by fixing constituting members except a mirror to a common assembly, and fixing it to each kind of housing so as to be converted. CONSTITUTION: A scanner 10 is provided with a hand type housing 12 whose inside part is divided into an upper half 16 and a lower half 18 by a base 14. A high speed scanning motor 20 is set on the base 14, an U-shaped supporting body 26 is fixed to an output axial part 22 instead of a plane mirror, a laser 1 optical part assembly 28 is fixed to the supporting body 26, and the assembly 28 and the supporting body 26 are shaken and rotated altogether by the axial part 22. The assembly 28 is provided with a hollow slender tube 30, laser diode 32 fixed to one end, lens barrel 34 fixed to the other end, and focusing lens held in the lens barrel 34. An opening through-diaphragm is provided at the end wall of the lens barrel 34, and the lens barrel 34 is fixed in nest type so as to be moved in a vertical direction in the tube 30.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide a completely independent scanning module which generates a light beam, scans a mark with the beam in the form of pattern crossing the mark, detects the light reflected on the mark and processes the signal representing the reflected light. CONSTITUTION: An optical scanning module 600 includes a metallic base, a 1st circuit substrate which is attached to the metallic base across one of its both ends, and a 2nd circuit substrate which is attached to the 1st circuit substrate at a right angle. The metallic base supports a radiator which generates a scanning beam and also can serve as a heat sink of the radiator. The module 600 also includes a drive mechanism having the shape of a permanent magnet or an electromagnet which generates the reciprocating motions of a mirror 159. A detector included in the module 600 detects the light reflected on the mark that is scanned by the scanning beam. The circuits provided on both circuit substrates are connected to each other via a flexible electric cable, cooperate with each other to produce all signals that are necessary for the operations of the module 600 and process the electric signals sent from the detector. Then a system is added to simultaneously scan the beam in two directions or thogonal to each other at two different frequency levels.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To reduce the weight and width of a head, to easily handle the head and to reduce the burden of an arm and a wrist by providing a single light transparent window close and opposite to a scanning means at the rear part of a head for a sweep beam, and providing a light source and a sensor at the front part of a housing. CONSTITUTION: A window provided adjacent to a scanning means 24 at the rear part of a head 10 constitutes a scanning window 50, and another light transparent non-scanning window 52 is provided close and opposite to a sensor means 54 at the front part of the head 10. Also, a light source 22 is attached close and opposite to the non-scanning window 52 at the front port of the head 10. Thus, it is possible to obtain the light and compact laser scanning head 10 which can be held in hands by a user without any burden of an arm or a wrist, which can be easily handled even at the time of an assembly line that the head is repeatedly operated many times, every day, and every hour, and every minute as usual.
