    Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a high-speed scanning mechanism for the scanner which reads a bar code symbol by swinging a scanning element according to a uniaxial scanning pattern or multiaxial scanning pattern. CONSTITUTION: The light beam emitted by a light source travels through a window 18 along an optical path and impinges on a display to be read, e.g. the bar code symbol. In the scanner 10, an optical detector which has a view area for collecting reflected light returning from the symbol through the window 18, e.g. a photodiode is arranged. The scanning element arranged in the scanner 10 operates to scan the symbol and/or the view area of the optical detector. The scanning element is a light reflector which is arranged in the emission and/or return path and the light reflector is swung by an electric operation type driving means at a specific frequency alternately in the circumferential direction.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide a completely independent scanning module which generates a light beam, scans a mark with the beam in the form of pattern crossing the mark, detects the light reflected on the mark and processes the signal representing the reflected light. CONSTITUTION: An optical scanning module 600 includes a metallic base, a 1st circuit substrate which is attached to the metallic base across one of its both ends, and a 2nd circuit substrate which is attached to the 1st circuit substrate at a right angle. The metallic base supports a radiator which generates a scanning beam and also can serve as a heat sink of the radiator. The module 600 also includes a drive mechanism having the shape of a permanent magnet or an electromagnet which generates the reciprocating motions of a mirror 159. A detector included in the module 600 detects the light reflected on the mark that is scanned by the scanning beam. The circuits provided on both circuit substrates are connected to each other via a flexible electric cable, cooperate with each other to produce all signals that are necessary for the operations of the module 600 and process the electric signals sent from the detector. Then a system is added to simultaneously scan the beam in two directions or thogonal to each other at two different frequency levels.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide the light-weight and strong optical scanner of a compact structure with excellent assembly/operation efficiency by combining an optical element, a permanent magnet and a flexible element. CONSTITUTION: When an AC current is applied to an electromagnetic coil 82, force for vibrating a mirror/magnet assembly in a horizontal direction is generated by mutual action with the permanent magnet 94 and the flexible element 90 is bent in a twisting direction. Thus, a laser beam made to hit a mirror is deflected in the horizontal direction. A vertical moment is generated by the force generated in a leaf spring 88 by magnetically induced force and a ring 86 is moved in a vertical direction. Since a ring assembly is flexibly attached so as to be adapted to vertical movement, this scanner 80 vibrates the mirror 92 in two directions and performs raster scanning by the laser beam deflected by the mirror 92. Thus, the light-weight and string optical scanner of the compact structure with the excellent assembly/operation efficiency is obtained.

This case is suitable for read of information encoded with a low density like a bar code printed by a dot matrix. Meanwhile, when the spacer 21 is shortened in the opposite direction on the housing and the front end part or the spacer 21 is brought into contact with the surface S, the distance between the focus P and the surface S is relatively short, and the spot of light is small. This case is suitable for read of information encoded with a high density like a small-sized bar code.
