    Abstract: PURPOSE:To enable relief of small relief angles and deep spot and dropout depth by using a polyester film containing an ultraviolet light absorber. CONSTITUTION:The ultraviolet light absorber haveing the chemical structure formula of preferably the formula (R is alkyl) 0.001 to 5wt%, preferably 0.1 to 4wt% is added prior to the polymerization process or melt extrusion of the copolymer in which more than 85% of repetitive units are ethylene terephthalate or ethylene-2, 6-naphthalate units or the polyester mixed with 15wt% or under of other polymers. This polyester is formed to an unoriented film of more than 0.50 in intrinsic viscosity measured preferably at 25 deg.C in O-chlorophenol by a melt extrusion process, following to which this film is biaxially oriented. This film has satisfactory transparency and permits application of various surface treatments.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a polyester film which has good ductility rarely broken when stretched and has high strength both in longitudinal and lateral directions by thermofixing a biaxially oriented film at a particular temperature and then biaxially stretching and thermofixing again in succession under particular conditions. CONSTITUTION:A biaxially oriented film which was stretched both in longitudinal and lateral directions by two times or more, preferably 2.5-5.0 times long is thermofixed at a temperature at or below polyester melting point(Tm)-10 deg.C, preferably at a temperature polyester stretching temperature(Ts)+10 deg.C-Tm-30 deg.C. Next, the film is biaxially strethced in succession both in longitudinal and lateral directions with a stretching ratio of 1.05-2.5 respectively at a stretching temperature of glass transition point of polyester(Tg)+10 deg.C-Tm-40 deg.C, preferably Tg+40 deg.C-Tm-60 deg.C, is thermofixed at a temperature of Tg+50 deg.C-Tm-10 deg.C and thus a film with a F-5 value of 14kg/mm or more is obtained. By setting restretching conditions in such a way that the product of two stretching ratios, that in longitudinal and lateral directions, may become 4.0 or more, preferably 5.5 or more, a film with desired characteristics can be obtained.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain polyethylene terephthalate suitable as a film for a magnetic tape, having improved slipperiness and surface conditions, by adding a soluble lithium compound, calcium compound and a phosphorus compound to the polycondensation step of the polyethylene terephthalate. CONSTITUTION:At a point of time from the completion of ester interchange reaction or esterification reaction of terephthalic acid (derivative) with ethylene glycol to an intrinsic viscosity of 0.2, preferably 0.01-0.25wt% glycol-soluble lithium compound, e.g. lithium chloride, and preferably 0.01-0.3wt% glycol-soluble calcium compound, at a molar ratio between the lithium compound and the calcium compound of preferably 1/1-10/1 are added to the polycondensation step. Furthermore, preferably 0.05-0.3wt% trivalent or pentavalent phosphorus compound, e.g. phosphoric acid, or both are added thereto to complete the polycondensation. Thus, the aimed polyethylene terephthalate is obtained.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a crosslinked or high-polymerization degree polyester, readily melt-moldable, industrially advantageously, by irradiating a copolyester of p-carboxycinnamic acid with light. CONSTITUTION:(A) An acid component consisting mainly of (a) an aromatic dicarboxylic acid (or ester-forming derivative) and (b) 0.5-30mol% based on (A) of p-carboxycinnamic acid (or ester-forming derivative) is polycondensed with (B) an aliphatic or alicyclic glycol to form a polyester. The resulting polyester is molded and irradiated with light (preferably UV), to crosslink or increase the polymerization degree. A photosensitizer, e.g. benzophenone, may be used, if necessary.

CONSTITUTION:By using reprocessed thermoplastic resins (a) and (b) and virgin thermoplastic resins (c) and (d) as main materials, a filmy material 1 is formed from a resin A whose mixing ratio of the resins (a) and (c), [a/(a+c)], is below 40%, and at one or more ends thereof, a filmlike material 2, which is formed from a resin B whose mixing ratio of the resins (b) and (d), [b/(b+d)], is above 40%, is joined and orientated at least once in the width direction. Then, given parts are removed to obtain a filmlike material of only the resin A.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a low-cost linear polyester film with mat surface that is appropriate for use as packing material or decorative material for its metallic luster, gloss and refined quality by adding specified amounts of special molybdenum compounds. CONSTITUTION:A polyester film (polyethylene terephthalate is prefered in particular) containing 0.1-10 percent, or preferably 0.3-7 percent by weight of molybdenum compound (inorganic compounds such as MoO3 and MoO3 are prefered) having averaged volume diameter of 0.5-25mu or preferably 3-11mu is orientated preferably more than 2.0 times in the direction of machine. On a biaxial drawing, 2-5 times orientating to laternal direction is also required. Thus, film with mat surface is obtained.
