    Abstract: A liquid crystal polymer composition comprises (A) 100 parts by weight of a liquid crystal polyester and/or liquid crystal polyesteramide capable of forming an anisotropic melt and (B) a liquid crystal polymer composition containing 5 to 300 parts by weight of a potassium titanate whisker having a pH of 6 to 8, wherein, the melt viscosity of the composition is 12 to 300 Pa.sec, and the weight average fiber length of the potassium titanate whisker in the composition is at least 4.5 mu m.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a resin compsn. which is reduced in molding burr, excellent in mechanical strengths and flowability, and useful esp. for an injection molded small precision part. CONSTITUTION:A resin compsn. is obtd. by melt mixing 100 pts.wt. resin mixture comprising 95-30wt.% polyphenylene sulfide resin mixture and 5-70wt.% thermotropic liq. -crystal resin with 20-250 pts.wt. at least one filler selected from fibrous and nonfibrous fillers. The polyphenylene sulfide resin mixture comprises 90-30wt.% cross-linked polyphenylene sulfide resin having a number- average mol.wt. of 7,000-15,000, a total ash content of 0.3wt.% or lower, and a ratio of the melt flow rate at a 15-min dwelling to that at a 5-min dwelling of 50-95% and 10-70wt.% virtually non-cross-linked polyphenylene sulfide resin having a number-average mol.wt. of 3,000-6,000.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the weld strength, resistance to hydrolysis and abrasion, etc., of a liq.-crystalline polyester(amide) capable of forming an anisotropic melt phase by compounding it with an anhydrous calcium sulfate whisker. CONSTITUTION:100 pts.wt. liq.-crystalline polyester comprising structural units of formulas I, II, III, and IV (wherein R1 is a group of formula V, etc.; and R2 is a group of formula VI, etc.) and capable of forming an anisotropic melt phase and/or liq.-crystalline polyesteramide is compounded with 2-200 pts.wt. anhydrous calcium sulfate whisker to give the title compsn., which is suitable for electric and electronic parts, etc. The liq.-crystalline polymer may be free from the unit of formula III, contains the sum of the units of formulas II and III in the same molar amt. as that of the units of formula IV, and is prepd., e.g. by polycondensing p-hydroxybenzoic acid, 4,4'-dihydroxybiphenyl, ethylene glycol, and terephthalic acid.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a resin composition improved in mechanical properties by adding a specified amount of a combination of potassium titanate fibers with talc to a liquid crystal polyester comprising a number of specified structural units and having a specified liquid crystal initiation temperature. CONSTITUTION:A mixture comprising p-hydroxybenzoic acid, 4,4'- dihydroxybiphenyl, terephthalic acid, polyethylene terephthalate, etc., in a specified ratio is polycondensed to obtain a liquid crystal polyester comprising structural units of formulas I-IV (wherein R1 is a group of formula V, a group of formula VI or the like; and R2 is a group of formula V, a group of formula VII or the like), having a liquid crystal initiation temperature of 330 deg.C or below and represented by formula VIII (wherein k/l/m/n=80/7.5/12.5/20). 5-30 pts.wt. mixture of whiskers of potassium titanate such as K2Ti6O13 of a pH of 6-8 with talc of a mean particle diameter of 2.0-6.0mum in a weight ratio of 30/70 to 95/5 is added to 100 pts.wt. this polyester to obtain the objective composition having a melt viscosity of 15-80Pa.sec and excellent mechanical properties.
