Abstract: This invention relates to false twisted combined filament yarn consisting mainly of polyester multifilament yarn composed of not less than two kinds of false twisted filament yarn of different cross-sectional shapes at least one kind of filament yarn of which has a predetermined non-recess-carrying cross-sectional shape, and the remaining filament yarn of which has a predetermined recess-carrying cross-sectional shape, the filament yarn of such cross-sectional shapes being combined so that the yarn of respective cross-sectional shapes scatter; a method of manufacturing the same false twisted combined filament yarn; and a knitted or woven material using the same yarn. The present invention can provide false twisted combined filament yarn capable of producing a knitted or woven material having excellent draping characteristics and a dry feel owing to the additional twists, the number of which is smaller than those given to conventional false twisted yarn, given to the yarn according to the present invention, as well as a swollen appearance, a soft feel and lightness, i.e. a smooth and dry feel which are different from the hard and cool feel of conventional hard twist yarn of this kind, and, furthermore, a high water absorption factor; and a woven or knitted material having a high water absorption factor.

Abstract: False twist yarns consisting of synthetic fibers, having, in respective specified-ranges, an elongation, an expansion/contraction restoring ratio, a crimp developing elongation ratio, a maximum shrinkage stress, a single-yarn deforming level, and the number of interlaces, being excellent in drapability, soft feeling, bulkiness, and stretchability, and having a lightweight feeling, a mild luster, and a smooth, dry feeling. The false twist yarns can create woven/knitted fabrics having a novel texture not found in those using conventional drawn yarns or false twist yarns. In a drawing false twist process provided with a heater, a false twister, and a twist setter provided between the heater and the false twister, non-drawn yarns supplied to this process are heated by the heater with a twisting action to be applied thereto by the false twister controlled by the twist setter, are allowed to pass the twist setter after heated, and then are false-twisted by the false twister with the twist setter as a twisting starting point, thereby producing false twist yarns.

A gap is formed between the cross-sections of the monofilaments when at least one kind of the monofilament free from concave on the cross-section is brought into contact with at least one kind of the monofilament having concave part on the cross-section. The combined filament yarn has an Uster unevenness U% of 1.5-15 and a boiling water shrinkage of 8-15%. This invention also relates to the production process for the combined filament yarn and a woven or knit fabric made of the yarn.
