    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject device, having a vent hole in part of the interior in a feed port under a hopper of an extruder for melt extruding powder and capable of stably and directly melt extruding the powder without chipping the raw material and minimizing the thermal deterioration of the raw material. CONSTITUTION:Powder is melt extruded by a method using an extruder 6 equipped with a hopper 1. In the process, a device for melt extruding the powder having the hopper 1 provided with a vent hole 2 in part of a feed port 4 under the hopper 1 is used to feed the powder, such as thermoplastic resin, from the feed port 4 under the hopper 1 to the extruder 6 and fed to a cylinder part 3 with a screw 5, melted and extruded through a discharge outlet 7 and molded. Furthermore, the vent hole 2 is preferably provided in the feed port 4 on at least the side of the discharge port 7 of the extruder 6.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the title carbon fiber excellent in flexibility by conjugate spinning of a combination of a pitch raw material with a resin component so that the resin component come into circumferential contact with the raw material followed by removing the resin component before or after the insolubilization treatment and then by calcination. CONSTITUTION:A combination of (A) a pitch raw material such as petroleum- or coal-based pitch with (B) a resin component such as polystyrene or polyacrylonitrile is subjected to conjugate spinning so that the component B come into circumferential contact with the component A to form a precursor fiber. Thence, the resin component is removed before or after the insolubilization treatment followed by calcination, thus obtaining the objective carbon fiber improved in its handleability.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide the title insolubilization process in an oxidative gas so designed that a pitch raw material is spun and the resulting precursor fiber is imparted with static electricity prior to the insolubilization treatment to facilitate said treatment, thereby obtaining, a high-performance pitch fiber with little fusing. CONSTITUTION:When a pitch precursor fiber produced by spinning a coal- or petroleum-based pitch raw material is to be put to insolubilization treatment in an oxidative gas, said fiber is imparted, prior to said treatment, with static electricity (pref., washing with a solvent such as water or alcohol followed by imparting the fiber with static electricity through non-contact technique) to effect opening to prevent the pitch yarn from fusing when insolubilized, thereby accomplishing the insolubilization in a short time in high efficiency and obtaining a high-grade pitch fiber of improved physical properties.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject fiber having improved reeling and handling properties by conjugately spinning a macromolecular compound with a constant carbonization yield or a mixture of a pitch and another macromolecular compound and a pitch or a mixture of a macromolecular compound and a pitch. CONSTITUTION:(A) (i) A macromolecular compound with >=5% carbonization yield such as polyacrylonitrile or polyphenylene sulfide or (ii) a mixture of a pitch such as coal-based or petroleum-based pitch and another macromolecular compound and (B) (iii) a pitch or (iV) a mixture of a macromolecular compound and a pitch are conjugately spun to provide the objective pitch fiber having a seath and core conjugate structure.     Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the title fiber of outstanding physical properties in excellent fiber formability by removing fluid optically anisotropic foreign substances from mesophase pitch followed by melt spinning of the resultant pitch. CONSTITUTION:Mesophase pitch is freed from such foreign substances as to be imcompatible with the matrix and have fluidity lower than that of said matrix, through pref. filtration, and put to melt spinning, thus obtaining the objective optically anisotropic fiber. In this fiber, optically anisotropic carbonaceous liquid crystals incompatible with said matrix but formed with a curved surface smooth in the interface with the matrix, free from foreign substances of size >=1/5times the fiber diameter are oriented in the direction of fiber axis.
