Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent formation of a water screen on a surface and to make it hard to slip on it even in the rainy weather by molding a water permeable paving material forming an aggregate in a block shape, etc., by using synthetic resin, cement, etc., as a binder and mixing aggregate particles and the binder and paving a footpath provided on a bridge, etc., with it. SOLUTION: A concrete filling material 5 is deposited on a footpath of a bridge part, a sand cushion 4 is applied on it, and water permeable paving material 3 of a water permeable ceramic block sintered by heating an aggregate at high temperature or water permeable asphalt concrete, etc. A water flowing hole 7 to drain rain water to a drainage device 9 on the road-way side is provided on a curb block 6. Nonwoven fabric 8 made of polyester to prevent flowout of the sand cushion 4, etc., is set in the water flowing hole. It is possible to make the overall surface of the footpath of the bridge a water permeable pavement by using the water permeable paving material bonding aggregate particles by a binder of cement, etc. Consequently, it is possible to prevent production of sumps due to rain water. Consequently, pedestrians and bicycles can pass without anxiety.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and stably obtain a water permeable ceramic block excellent in bending strength, permeability coefficient or the like by mixing an aggregate, an inorganic binder, an α-converted starch powder with water, press forming, drying to solidify and firing. SOLUTION: The aggregate (a) (e.g. tile pulverized tile), the inorganic binder (b) (e.g. glass powder), the α-converted starch powder (c) and water (d) are used as essential components and sufficiently mixed. Next the mixture is press formed, dried to be solidified and fired to obtain the water permeable ceramic block. In such a case, the α-converted starch powder has at least >=50mol% degree of α-conversion, preferably >=60mol%, is soluble in a cold water and preferably has the average molecular weight of 30000-50000000. Further, the α-converted starch having 10-5000cp viscosity in the 1-4wt.% aq. solution preferably used. As a result, the ceramic block is produced with a simple process without staining the production line.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject fiber with a ratio of tensile modulus to torsional modulus and a loop yield strain respectively within a specified range, having a low structural anisotropy and a high compressive strength and useful as an excellent reinforcer for structural materials. CONSTITUTION:An objective fiber with =0.5% loop yield strain epsilon. A pitch produced by hydrogenating a heavy oil using a catalyst and forming the resultant pitch into a mesophase pitch is preferably used as the raw pitch. Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject enclosure capable of positively allowing rain water to permeate into the root portion of a road side tree in the rain, facilitating the passage of walkers and bicycles in the rain and further absorbing sounds generated on walking by combining specific paving materials. SOLUTION: This enclosure comprises water-permeable paving materials 1. Therein, the water-permeable paving materials 1 preferably comprise water- permeable ceramic blocks, and have a permeability coefficient of >=1×10 cm/sec measured according to JIS A-1128 at the early time, a surface slipping resistance value of >=40 BPN measured according to ASTM E 303-66T at a wet time, a flexural strength of >=40 kgf/cm measured according to JIS A-5304 and a 400-1,000 hertz average sound absorption coefficient of >=40% measured by the vertical incidence sound absorption coefficient measurement method of JIS A-1405.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject pitch fiber capable of providing a carbon fiber having no radial structure without cracking in calcining by providing a weir around the upstream side of a spinneret hole, discharging mesophase pitch in a molten state over the weir through the spinneret hole and forming a fiber. CONSTITUTION:Mesophase pitch in a molten state is discharged through a spinneret hole and formed into a fiber. In the process, a spinneret equipped with a spinneret plate 2, tightened and fixed through a block 3 to the lower end of a spinneret pack 1 fixed to a machine bed of a spinning machine, a spinneret hole 5 for discharging the mesophase pitch provided in the above- mentioned spinneret plate 2 and a weir 6 provided around the upstream side of the spinneret hole 5 is used to introduce the mesophase pitch in the molten state from a pitch introduction hole 4. The mesophase pitch is then raised above the weir 6 provided around the upstream side of the spinneret hole 5 of the spinneret plate 2 and discharged through the spinneret hole 5 and melt spinning is carried out to afford the aimed pitch fiber.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To enable ready and continuous infusibilization of a pitch yarn without damaging the yarn while keeping a fine tow shape by carrying out heat treatment of the pitch yarn under tension by its own weight. CONSTITUTION:A pitch yarn is subjected to heat treatment (preferably at 250-350 deg.C final temperature) under tension of its own weight. A vertical furnace is preferable as the infusibilizing furnace and a pitch yarn with >=1000 denier is most preferable as the pitch yarn.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make stairs unslippery at the time of rainfall so as to enable a walker to pass without anxiety by forming part of the surface layer of the stairs of permeable paving material. SOLUTION: Part of at least the surface layer of stairs is formed of permeable paving material, and rainwater during rainfall is drained from the end part of a permeable ceramics tile 1 to the lower step side and drained into the ground at a permeable ceramics block part 2 of a final ground part. Unwoven fabric 9 made of polyester is laid between crushed stones and a side cushion 3 in a place where the permeable ceramics block is laid so that sand does not flow into the crushed stones. A puddle and a water film on the surface are not therefore formed at the surface layer of the stairs at the time of rainfall, so that a walker can pass without anxiety, and the stairs can be made more comfortable.
