Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an efficient gaseous phase deposition forming device capable of continuously applying coating of high quality to many substrates and good in the efficiency of the cost. SOLUTION: A geseous phase deposition forming device for applying substrates with coating is provided, and this device contains plural gaseous phase deposition coaters 14, plural platers 16, a plater docking station 18 and a device for carrying the platers between the coaters and the plater docking station. A shuttle truck connects the plater docking station and coaters. The plater selectively discharged from the coater is carried to the plater docking station along the shuttle truck, where the treated substrate is taken down from the plater, and untreated substrate is placed on the plater.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a polished coating layer excellent in durability on the surface of a super alloy substrate or the like by applying plasma spraying of a material composed of the grains of an abrasive material to the surface of the substrate. SOLUTION: A plasma spraying machine is fed with, 50 to 60% ceramic matrix powder with 3 to 150 micron particle size composed of oxide such as Al2 O3 and 40 to 50% abrasive particles with 3 to 150 micron particle size composed of carbide or nitride such as TiC, BN or the like in which shearing force is higher than that of the matrix particles also having an angular shape to form a composite coating member 26 excellent in durability with the Al2 O3 ceramics as a matrix 34 and the carbide or nitride such as TiC, BN or the like as abrasive particles 36 on the surface of a rotor substrate 14 of the turbine part in an axial flow turbine.

Abstract: A composite ceramic coating 26 having abrasive properties for application to a metallic substrate such as an airfoil tip is provided which includes a ceramic matrix 34 and a plurality of ceramic abrasive particles 36 disposed within said ceramic matrix 34. The abrasive particles 36 have a shear strength substantially greater than that of the ceramic matrix 34 and possess an angular geometry. The coating is preferably plasma sprayed onto the substrate.

Abstract: A gas turbine abradable seal is prepared by plasma spraying an oxidation resistant metallic material and boron nitride. The resultant structure comprises a metallic matrix encompassing a lubricating amount of boron nitride, with porosity of less than about 15 percent and a fabricated surface roughness of less than about 600 microinches. The reduced surface roughness and substantially reduced permeability of this seal provide substantially enhanced engine efficiency, and improved durability.
