Abstract: A wearable navigation system for blind or visually impaired persons with wireless assistance. The system has one or more than one camera to capture images from the surroundings of the blind user. A server uses the images captured by the camera along with a global positioning and specialized satellite imagery to determine a route for the blind user to follow. The user uses an audio input/output transceiver to enter and hear commands from the server. The system also has a wireless communications device so that the blind user can ask for remote assistance if there is a situation that the server cannot process.

Abstract: The system of the preferred embodiments is a young child monitoring device including: at least one microphone designed to be temporarily attached in contact with at least one of the skin and the clothing of a user; a radio transmission circuit wired in electrical communication with the microphone and adapted to transmit a signal from the microphone via radio waves; an electromagnetic induction circuit designed to generate power by induction from radio waves; a temporary attachment including at least one of A) an adhesive patch, B) a clip, C) adhesive tape, D) a patch comprising at least the hooks of a hook and loop fastener and designed to attach at least the microphone to the user; a base station including a radio receiver adapted to receive a signal generated by the radio transmission circuit, wherein the base station is designed to at least one of I) notify a caregiver, II) generate an audio alert, III) generate a visual alert, IV) send an alert to a mobile electronic device associated with a caregiver, V) send an alert to a headset worn by a caregiver and adapted to play audio for the caregiver.

Abstract: A cardiopulmonary resuscitation coordination method is disclosed. The method comprises: identifying a plurality of portable computing devices located within an area around a coordinator, each being associated with a respective user and comprising a communication interface and a sensor component; processing user-attribute information relating to said users; processing device-attribute information relating to the identified devices; for each sensor functionality of a plurality of sensor functionalities, the coordinator assigning a respective sensor functionality to the sensor component of at least one of the identified devices in response to the processed device-attribute information and user-attribute information; the coordinator assigning a cardiopulmonary resuscitation role to at least one of the users in response to the processed device-attribute information and user-attribute information; communicating data acquired by at least one of the sensor components assigned with a sensor functionality to the coordinator; and communicating specific cardiopulmonary resuscitation coordination guidance in response to the at least one assigned cardiopulmonary resuscitation role and the acquired data.

Abstract: Devices, systems and methods are provided for treating migraine headaches and other conditions by non-invasive electrical stimulation of nerves and other tissue. A hand-held device includes a housing with a controller having a signal generator, an electrode for delivering electrical signals, and a conductive surface configured as a return path for the electrical signals. In certain implementations, the electrode is repositionable with respect to the housing. The patient can self-apply the hand-held device by pressing it against areas in need of pain relief. The device may include a pressure-sensitive gating switch to control delivery of the stimulation therapy. In certain embodiments, the electrode is a rollerball electrode. The device may include a chamber for retaining and dispensing conductive gel to the therapy site. In certain approaches, the device includes an electrode support for coupling an electrical stimulation system to the head for hands-free electrical stimulation therapy.

Abstract: A defibrillator (AED) and method for using a defibrillator incorporates a user activated button which truncates an ongoing ECG analysis to immediately perform a different defibrillator-related function. For example, the AED may use two different ECG analysis algorithms having different sensitivities to a shockable cardiac rhythm, and a press of the button may automatically shift from a first algorithm to a second algorithm with the higher sensitivity. The button may also allow truncation of ongoing analysis and CPR for immediate preparation for electrotherapy.

Abstract: A compact mini air pump includes a rectangular, box-shaped body having a standard AC power cord extending from it, two air supply output ports, and a control and information panel with user-operated buttons and status lights located on its front side. Within the hollow interior of the body is an air compressor, a dual-output electromechanical valve having to two air output tubes, an air pressure sensor, a DC battery power supply, an AC power connection, and an electronic circuit board controlling the mini air pump's function. The air supply output ports, an extension of the air tubes within the body, supply air to Intermittent Pneumatic Compression (“IPC”) Therapy device garments through flexible air supply tubes. The mini air pump device is sized to be held by one hand for portability.

Abstract: A system includes a sequential compression device (SCD) used by a patient as part of a sequential compression therapy (SCT) protocol. The system also includes a computer device that determines whether the SCD is in use in substantially real time in compliance with the protocol. The computer device initiates a notification to a caregiver if noncompliance with the SCT protocol is detected.
