An air assisted atomizing spray nozzle including: (a) a mixing chamber, (b) a liquid inlet opening for injecting a liquid stream axially into the mixing chamber, (c) a pair of air inlet openings for injecting a pair of air streams radially into the mixing chamber in directions substantially opposed to one another and substantially perpendicular to the liquid stream for atomizing the liquid stream, and (d) an exit orifice in axial communication with the mixing chamber for discharging atomized liquid therefrom.
Abstract:
A spray marking nozzle includes features allowing it to perform well for fast marking of materials. The nozzle utilizes gas as a transport medium to carry liquid to the target material as a spray. Features of the nozzle allow it to be constructed economically in a compact size and to be controlled at high speed with little or no carry over spray and over a wide range of liquid and gas pressures.

An improved spray nozzle assembly particularly adapted for use in dispersing cooling fluids onto the opposed relatively narrow sides of a pair of slabs in a split or twin cast continuous steel casting system. The discharging spray nozzle assembly is fashioned with a nozzle body having a manifold which is common to a plurality of transversely mounted spray nozzle heads. Each spray nozzle head has a plurality of closely spaced, slit-like discharge openings that communicate with the manifold via a barrel-like mixing chamber and internal flow passages, Each of the discharge openings on each of said spray nozzle heads has a specifically configured shape to facilitate an even distribution of coolant throughout a substantially rectangular spray pattern.

A fuel injector nozzle comprising an inner member including an axially extending fuel passage adapted to communicate with a source of fuel under pressure and having an outlet end with a surface defining a valve seat, and an outer surface extending axially outwardly and converging to the valve seat, a valve member located in the fuel passage and movable axially thereof relative to the valve seat between open and closed positions, which valve member includes a valve head which is engageable with the valve seat when the valve member is in the closed position and spaced from the valve seat when the valve member is in the open position, and which includes an axially outwardly extending and converging surface, and an outer member surrounding the inner member and the valve head in spaced relation thereto and defining therebetween an air flow passage adapted to communicate with a source of air under pressure, which outer member includes an axially outwardly extending and converging surface located in spaced relation to the outer surface of the inner member and to the converging surface of the valve head and forming, with the outer surface of the inner member and the converging surface of the valve head, an air flow passage portion which diverges axially outwardly and which communicates with the fuel passage when the valve seat is in the open position, which outer member also includes an annular distribution chamber forming a part of the air flow passage, and an air flow duct forming a part of the air flow passage and communicating with the distribution chamber and with the environment exterior to the outer member.

A high efficiency liquid fuel atomizing nozzle for use in conjunction with industrial furnaces is described which employs a pressurized gas such as steam for supplying the atomizing energy. The nozzle typically has a plurality of discharge ports and defines, on its interior, a pressurized fuel compartment and a pressurized steam chamber. A core stream of steam is flowed from the steam chamber along an axis obliquely inclined relative to the longitudinal axis of the nozzle to each port. Liquid fuel from the fuel compartment is flowed towards each core stream and divided substantially equally into a number of fuel branch flows which equals the number of core streams. Each branch flow is then brought generally tangentially into contact with the associated core stream so as to form a substantially homogenous, annular fuel stream which surrounds the core stream. As the fuel comes into contact with the core stream, it is atomized so that the annular fuel flow is a flow of small droplets which surrounds the core flow. A secondary, annular stream of steam is formed for each core stream at a point downstream of the point at which the fuel stream is combined with the core stream and envelopes the combined stream. The three streams are then discharged from the associated port into the furnace for combustion of the fuel therein.

Spray mixing nozzle for reacting acid and base having a central pressurized gas channel, at least two surrounding annular channels for acid and base and an outer annular channel for pressurized gas. The pressurized gas forcefully unites the acid and base into a spray at the nozzle outlet. The spray mixing nozzle is provided with a water spray, directed toward the spray mixing nozzle orifice, to prevent crust formation.

The atomizer includes a pair of complemental sections held together so that at least one is rotatable relative to the other; the complemental meeting edges are helical, the beginning of each helix forming a shoulder, whereby the rotating of one of the sections relative to the other determines a slit of selected length for the nozzle orifice; the sections herein illustrated are half-spheres which are sufficiently hollow to form a chamber at the meeting edges; means being provided to introduce a medium under low pressure to be expelled through the nozzle orifice; and axial means being provided to adjustably hold the two elements; in the present illustration a low pressure gaseous substance, such as air is expelled through the nozzle orifice to atomize a liquid which is introduced so as to spread over the aforesaid spherical surface and over said orifice; one or more such coacting shoulders may be provided on the helical meeting edges to provide one or more nozzle orifices adjustable simultaneously.
