An additive composition for a fuel oil composition and that is free of polycyclic carboxylic acids and of acid derivatives thereof comprises an additive that comprises one or more monocarboxylic acids, each having from 10 to 24 carbon atoms, or acid derivatives thereof, optionally in combination with one or both of an anti-oxidant additive and an anti-static additive.

Disclosed are stabilized biodiesel fuel compositions, which compositions comprise a biodiesel fuel, for example the methyl esters of the fatty acids of rapeseed or soy oil, which compositions comprise a biodiesel fuel and an effective stabilizing amount of a combination of i) one or more compounds selected from the group consisting of the sterically hindered phenolic antioxidants and ii) one or more compounds selected from the group consisting of the triazole metal deactivators.

Compositions containing phenolic antioxidant solutions are provided. The invention further provides methods of making and using such compositions as well as compositions that contain both biodiesel and at least one antioxidant concentrate solutions and blended fuel compositions containing biodiesel blended with other fuels.

A lubricant composition is disclosed that comprises lubricating oil and a mixture of at least two antioxidants, the first antioxidant being a secondary diarylamine and the second antioxidant being a substituted para-phenylenediamine. Also disclosed is a method of increasing the oxidation stability of a lubricating oil comprising adding thereto at least two antioxidants, the first antioxidant being a secondary diarylamine and the second antioxidant being a substituted para-phenylenediamine.

The pour point of paraffin-containing liquids is reduced by adding to the liquid an effective amount of a pour point depressant which is the reaction product of a hydrocarbyl-substituted phenol having a number average of greater than 30 carbon atoms in the hydrocarbyl-substituent, and an aldehyde of 1 to about 12 carbon atoms, or a source therefor. The pour point depressant is particularly useful for treating crude oils which have an initial pour point of 4.degree. C. or higher.
Abstract:
A process for producing an additive for hydrocarbon fuels by combining picric acid, powdered iron, an activating acid, and a liquid organic solvent. Alternatively, the powdered iron can first be washed with the activating acid and the rinsed with water or alcohol or water followed by alcohol; subsequently the washed and rinsed iron is combined with the picric acid and the liquid organic solvent. In the case of either alternative, hydroquinone can be added to the mixture in order to control undesired oxidation and corrosion, thereby further enhancing the stability of the additive.
