Abstract: The present application generally relates to the introduction of a renewable fuel oil as a feedstock into refinery systems or field upgrading equipment. Abstract: Methods and compositions for stabilization and subsequent hydrogenation of a microbial-derived immiscible olefin are described. The methods comprise separating immiscible olefin from a mixture comprising an aqueous solution, microbial cells and immiscible olefin thereby forming a crude olefin composition; purifying the crude olefin composition thereby forming a purified olefin composition; and adding a phenolic antioxidant to the purified olefin composition wherein the phenolic antioxidant is a phenol derivative containing an unfused phenyl ring with one or more hydroxyl substituents. The methods further comprise reacting the purified olefin composition with hydrogen in the presence of a hydrogen catalyst such that hydrogen saturates at least one double bond in the olefin. Hydrogenated compositions produced by the methods are further provided.

Abstract: A motor fuel comprising gasoline comprising 70-99 wt % gasoline and 1 to 30 wt % of mesitylene. This fuel can advantageously contain conventional additives used in gasoline. The use of mesitylene in gasoline blend yields a fuel blend with a higher research octane number and motor octane number. In addition, an improved jet fuel is provided, having from 1-10 wt % mesitylene added to the jet fuel, having improved carbon emission characteristics while maintaining required specifications. Further, an improved bio-fuel is provided, which may function as a replacement for conventional Jet A/JP-8 fuel and has lowered carbon emission specifications, the bio-fuel comprised of 75-90 wt % synthetic parafinnic kerosene (SPK) and 10-25 wt % mesitylene.

Abstract: A multi-stage process for reducing the environmental contaminants in an ISO8217 compliant Feedstock Heavy Marine Fuel Oil involving a core desulfurizing process and a Detrimental Solids removal unit as either a pre-treating step or post-treating step to the core process. The Product Heavy Marine Fuel Oil complies with ISO 8217 for residual marine fuel oils and has a sulfur level has a maximum sulfur content (ISO 14596 or ISO 8754) between the range of 0.05 mass % to 1.0 mass and a Detrimental Solids content less than 60 mg/kg. A process plant for conducting the process is also disclosed.

Abstract: Fuels and/or fuel blending components can be formed from hydroprocessing of high lift deasphalted oil. The high lift deasphalting can correspond to solvent deasphalting to produce a yield of deasphalted oil of at least 50 wt %, or at least 65 wt %, or at least 75 wt %. The resulting fuels and/or fuel blending components formed by hydroprocessing of the deasphalted oil can have unexpectedly high naphthene content and/or density. Additionally or alternately, the resulting fuels and/or fuel blending components can have a clear and bright appearance.
