A method of using the system for patient rehabilitation is also disclosed.
Abstract:
An elevation device used in the performance of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and after resuscitation includes a base and an upper support operably coupled to the base. The upper support is configured to incline at an angle relative to the base to elevate an individual's upper back, shoulders and head. The elevation device includes a support arm coupled with the upper support. The support arm is movable to various positions relative to the upper support and is lockable at a fixed angle relative to the upper support such that the upper support and the support arm are movable as a single unit relative to the base while the support arm maintains the angle relative to the upper support. The elevation device also includes a chest compression device coupled with the support arm. The chest compression device is configured to compress the chest.
Abstract:
In device for placing a toe of a patient's foot in traction may broadly include a shoe portion (e.g., a sole, counter, and strap(s)); a toe attachment apparatus (e.g., a Chinese finger trap) having a cable extending therefrom; a pulley, with the cable wrapped about the pulley; and an apparatus (e.g., a ratchet, an actuator, and the like) configured to apply tension to the cable to create traction in the toe. A second actuator may adjust lateral positioning of the pulley relative to the shoe portion to set a desired angle of adduction for the traction provided to the toe by the cable. A meter may be coupled to the cable to indicate an amount of tension provided thereto. Another actuator may adjust elevational positioning of the pulley relative to the shoe portion to set a desired angle of dorsiflexion for the traction provided to the toe by the cable.
Abstract:
A compression device for the foot comprising: a wrap adapted to surround the foot, the wrap comprising at least two bladders which when inflated conform to the shape of the foot to provide compression, the bladders being positioned on the wrap so that a first bladder focuses compression on the heel of the foot and a second bladder focuses compression on the arch of the foot; a channel attached to each bladder for independently delivering fluid to each bladder; and a controller attached to the channels that generates and independently controls the flow of fluid to the bladders.
Abstract:
An apparatus (1) for assisting cardiopulmonary resuscitation by applying compression to the chest of a patient to stimulate blood circulation. The apparatus (1) comprises a pressurized gas container (70), preferably storing a gas in liquid form, a turbine (90), an electrical power generator (91) and a defibrillator (80). The turbine is actuated by the pressurized gas and adapted for powering the electric power generator (91), and the electric power generator (91) is adapted for energizing the defibrillator (80). The apparatus may further comprise a pneumatic compressor assembly (10) operably connected to the pressurized gas container (70).
Abstract:
The invention is directed to controlling a hydraulic actuation system having at least one degree of freedom, a prime mover, at least one actuation module and a controller, with each actuation module including: an over-center variable displacement pump having a power input connection configured to power the pump from the prime mover and a displacement varying input for varying the displacement of the pump; a displacement varying actuator configured to modulate the displacement varying input of the pump; an output actuator in direct communication with the pump, the output actuator configured to drive a corresponding degree of freedom; and at least one sensor establishing a feedback measurement that represents a force or motion of the output actuator. Based on a value of each feedback measurement, the force or motion of the output actuator is regulated by controlling the prime mover and the displacement actuator for the output actuator.
Abstract:
A manifold for use with an intermittent compression device garment, said manifold comprising: a plurality of outlet ports, where each of said outlet ports is fluidically connected to a chamber within a fluid fillable garments; and an inlet port fluidically connected to a fluid pump.
Abstract:
Collection of biological fluids. At least some of the example embodiments are polymeric sleeves including: an elongate body that defines a first end, a second end opposite the first end, and a longitudinal central axis; a main passageway through the elongate body parallel to the central axis, the main passageway extends from the first end to the second end, and the main passageway defines a first aperture on the first end and a second aperture on the second end; a first member suspended over the first aperture on the first end, the first member defines a first initial passageway parallel to the main passageway, and the first member and first end define an interior volume; and a first vent opening defined in part by the first member, the first vent opening distinct from the passageways, and the first vent opening fluidly couples the interior volume to atmosphere pressure.

Abstract:
The invention provides a rising support integrated in a walking aid and a method of connecting a sling or harness to the walking aid. The walking aid has one part which is adjustable in height in relation to the rest of the walking aid. One or more traction devices, in the form of wires, are connected to the walking aid. One end of each traction device is fastened to the sling, while the other end of the traction device is fastened to a fixed part of the walking aid. Each traction device goes via the part adjustable in height. A person placed in the sling will be raised by the traction devices when the part adjustable in height is lifted, in that the traction device is fastened to the sling and a fixed part of the walking aid and that the traction device passes the part adjustable in height.
