Abstract: A photoelectric conversion apparatus includes an avalanche photodiode including an anode and a cathode, a switch that is connected to one node of the anode and the cathode, and a power line to which a drive voltage is to be applied, and configured to switch a resistance value between the one node and the power line, and a signal generation unit configured to generate a pulse signal for controlling switching of the switch, wherein a value obtained by dividing the number of the pulse signals in a first exposure period by the first exposure period, and a value obtained by dividing the number of the pulse signals in a second exposure period having a length different from a length of the first exposure period, by the second exposure period are different.

Abstract: An optical sensor includes pixels. Each pixel has a photodetector. A readout circuit performs a process over an exposure time where the photodetector is connected to a reverse bias voltage supply to reset a voltage across the photodetector, and the photodetector is disconnected from the reverse bias voltage supply until that the voltage across the photodetector decreases in response to received ambient light. An ambient light level is then determine an based on a number of times the voltage across the photodetector is reset over the exposure time.

Abstract: An imaging device includes a detector array and an aperture disposed along an optical path, with an array of filter elements disposed in the optical path therebetween. The detector array has a plurality of detector elements that are sensitive to a wavelength spectrum of interest, such as, for example, the visible spectrum and/or the infrared (IR) spectrum. Each filter element is configured to filter out energy within the wavelength spectrum of interest that is in a wavelength band of interest to form filtered energy within the wavelength spectrum of interest that is outside the wavelength band of interest. The filtered energy is passed by each filter to at least one corresponding detector element, which generates one or more detector values based on the received energy. The detector values may be processed to determine an intensity value for the wavelength band of interest.

Abstract: A solid-state imaging device includes a plurality of pixels each including a photoelectric converter that generates charges by photoelectric conversion and a charge holding portion that holds charges transferred from the photoelectric converter. The photoelectric converter includes a first semiconductor region of a first conductivity type provided in a surface portion of a semiconductor substrate, a second semiconductor region of a second conductivity type provided under the first semiconductor region and configured to accumulate generated charges, a third semiconductor region of the first conductivity type provided under the second semiconductor region, and a fourth semiconductor region of the first conductivity type provided in a part of a portion between the first and second semiconductor regions. In a plan view, the second semiconductor region has a first region not overlapping with the third semiconductor region, and the fourth semiconductor region overlaps with at least a part of the first region.

Abstract: A vehicle is disclosed. The vehicle includes a first indicator light associated with a first function or a first state of the vehicle (e.g., a brake light), and circuitry coupled to the first indicator light. The circuitry is configured to cause the first indicator light to emit light when the vehicle is performing the first function or is operating in the first state, and detect an amount of light incident on the first indicator light. Thus, the indicator light can be used to detect incoming light to perform various vehicle functions (e.g., automatically dimming mirrors based on the incoming light) without the need for a dedicated light sensor.

Abstract: A silicon photomultiplier (SiPM) device is provided with a SiPM matrix fabricated on a substrate, a bias power supply connected to the SiPM matrix, and a compensation circuit coupled to the bias power supply. The bias power supply provides a bias voltage to the SiPM matrix. The compensation circuit can adjust the bias voltage applied to the SiPM matrix in response to temperature changes at the substrate. The compensation circuit includes a resistor fabricated on the substrate with the SiPM matrix. The resistor can have a resistance that varies in response to temperature changes at the substrate.
