Abstract:
A system for applying therapy to an eye selectively applies coolant to the corneal surface to minimize heat-related damage to the corneal surface during thermokeratoplasty. Embodiments may include an energy source, a conducting element, a coolant supply, and a coolant delivery system. The conducting element is operably connected to the energy source and extends from a proximal end to a distal end. The conducting element directs energy from the energy source to the distal end, which is positionable at the eye. The coolant delivery system is in communication with the coolant supply and is operable to deliver a micro-controlled pulse of coolant to the distal end.
Abstract:
Flexible, form fitting, uniquely shaped, body part bandages incorporate flexible carbon fiber blood flow stimulation planar emitters to provide therapeutic blood flow stimulation. Emitters are electrically powered and radiate pulsed electro magnetic energy at an ideal wavelength--typically in the 0.8 micron to 15 micron range--and frequency--typically in the 0.5 Mhz to 5 MHz range or 20 Hz to 200 Hz range--to stimulate circulation in sub dermal tissue. The carbon fiber emitters provide the means to maximize and control surface coverage and through their planar design also provide very uniform energy emissions over the entire applied surface area. Blood flow stimulation therapy body bandages are uniquely fashioned and shaped to form fit each body part and constructed such that they can then be incorporated in flexible and elastic materials such as neoprene and may include VELCRO hook and loop fasteners, buttons, straps, laces and the like.
Abstract:
A system includes a sequential compression device (SCD) used by a patient as part of a sequential compression therapy (SCT) protocol. The system also includes a computer device that determines whether the SCD is in use in substantially real time in compliance with the protocol. The computer device initiates a notification to a caregiver if noncompliance with the SCT protocol is detected.
Abstract:
An apparatus for treating pelvic pain and related urinary and sexual dysfunction includes a rod having a first end and a second end. A pressure applicator is attached to the second end of the rod. The pressure applicator is adapted to be inserted into a patient's body cavity for engagement with a myofascial trigger point. A sensor produces an output signal in response to deflection of the rod when pressure is applied to the myofascial trigger point by the pressure applicator.
Abstract:
A therapeutic shoe includes a main body, a sole located at one side of the main body, a vibration layer, and a power generating module. The vibration layer is located between the main body and the sole. The power generating module includes a power generating unit, a rectifying circuit and a vibration device, which are electrically connected in series. The power generating unit generates and induces induced current. The rectifying circuit receives, rectifies, amplifies and processes the induced current from the power generating unit. The vibration device is located at the vibration layer and receives the processed induced current from the rectifying circuit to vibrate according to a predetermined vibration frequency in the vibration layer.
Abstract:
A method of balancing acupuncture points by wearing a holding device that includes a waterproof container containing substances that give off resonant frequencies that have been found to balance acupuncture points allowing the wearer to receive therapy continually by wearing such a holding device. The holding device may be in the form of a locket, jewelry, patch with a medical adhesive, belt, pedal device, or incorporated into clothing and veterinary apparel.
Abstract:
The method of massage for improving the body condition as well as diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases consist of creating the friction between the skin's surface of the patient and the end of influencing head of the massage device with the forward and backward reversible angular turning motion, and stopping or repeating the linear or spiral movements of the massage device along the patient skin's surface with named motion of the end of influencing head and the pressure applied to the treatment skin's surfaces. The massage device design consists of the forward and backward reversible angular turning motion mechanism such as the reversible electric engine with the angular turning motion reverse system while this mechanism contains a moving part that contains the influencing head with the end in the form of the friction surface such as a flat form.
Abstract:
A massage apparatus is provided with a housing, and a substrate mounted for rotation to the housing and driven by a motor. A massage node and a positive temperature coefficient (PTC) heater are mounted to the substrate. A pair of contacts and a pair of brushes maintain electrical engagement of the PTC heater with the housing during rotation of the substrate. Another embodiment provides an infrared light emitting diode (LED) beneath the massage node in electrical communication with the housing due to the contacts and brushes. Another embodiment provides a method for imparting a heated massage effect by providing a massage apparatus with a message mechanism, a PTC heater and a plurality of infrared LEDs. A massage effect is imparted and a warm-up operation is initiated of the PTC heater and the LEDs. The warm-up operation of the PTC heater is discontinued upon the massage mechanism reaching a predefined temperature.
Abstract:
This disclosure relates to a vibroacoustic water system. The water system includes a reservoir configured to contain water and comprising a wall. The water system further includes four transducers mounted against the wall of the reservoir. The four transducers are configured to receive an input signal and to generate vibrations within water contained in the reservoir by vibrating the wall of the reservoir. The four transducers are mounted in a configuration such that, when the wall is partitioned into four sections, only a single transducer is mounted against each section of the wall and no other transducers are mounted against the wall.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus that affect vacuum to massage a volume of the skin and one or more types of skin treatment energies coupled to the massaged volume to treat the skin and subcutaneous adipose tissue and produce a desired treatment effect. The method and apparatus are based on coupling an array or a number of arrays being an assembly of skin treatment units with each skin treatment unit including a hollow cavity and a number of different energy to skin applying elements operative to receive skin treatment energy from a source of such energy and couple or apply the received energy to a treated segment of skin.
