Abstract: In one example, a method for writing data includes receiving a write request and performing a first type of logging process in connection with the write request, and creating a corresponding first logging record. Additionally, a second type of logging process is performed in connection with the write request, and a corresponding second logging record created, where the second type of logging process is different from the first type of logging process. Next, a determination is made, as between the two logging records, which of the logging records requires the least amount of non-volatile random access memory (NVRAM), and the logging record that requires the least amount of NVRAM is written to the NVRAM.

Abstract: A data management and storage (DMS) cluster of peer DMS nodes manages migration of an application between a primary compute infrastructure and a secondary compute infrastructure. The secondary compute infrastructure may be a failover environment for the primary compute infrastructure. Primary snapshots of virtual machines of the application in the primary compute infrastructure are generated, and provided to the secondary compute infrastructure. During a failover, the primary snapshots are deployed in the secondary compute infrastructure as virtual machines. Secondary snapshots of the virtual machines are generated, where the secondary snapshots are incremental snapshots of the primary snapshots. In failback, the secondary snapshots are provided to the primary compute infrastructure, where they are combined with the primary snapshots into construct a current state of the application, and the application is deployed in the current state by deploying virtual machines on the primary compute infrastructure.

Abstract: An improved content indexing (CI) system is disclosed herein. For example, the improved CI system may include a distributed architecture of client computing devices, media agents, a single backup and CI database, and a pool of servers. After a file backup occurs, the backup and CI database may include file metadata indices and other information associated with backed up files. Servers in the pool of servers may, in parallel, query the backup and CI database for a list of files assigned to the respective server that have not been content indexed. The servers may then request a media agent to restore the assigned files from secondary storage and provide the restored files to the servers. The servers may then content index the received restored files. Once the content indexing is complete, the servers can send the content index information to the backup and CI database for storage.

Abstract: Embodiments of the invention relate to generating backups of applications. The user or administrator that monitors the backup is notified of those files and/or folders that have not been backed up in the most recent backup. Abstract: Disclosed are systems and methods for providing logical to physical (L2P) table management using low-latency NVM to reduce solid state drive (SSD) random access memory (RAM) footprint. A method includes determining a logical to physical (L2P) mapping of a logical address to a physical address in a flash storage, for an operation directed to the logical address. The method also includes adding a data entry, comprising the L2P mapping, to an open journal structure in RAM. The method also includes adding a log entry, comprising the L2P mapping, to a buffer in the RAM. The method also includes flushing the buffer to a low-latency NVM storage in response to determining that the buffer has satisfied a size threshold. Reads, snapshotting and L2P table recovery are also described.

For example, a first storage controller, hosting first storage, may have a synchronous replication relationship with a second storage controller hosting second storage. A virtual machine, within the first storage, may be specified as having synchronous replication protection. Accordingly, virtual machine disk clones of a virtual machine disk of the virtual machine may be replicated from the first storage to the second storage. For example, virtual machine disk clones may be synchronous replicated, replicated by a resync process invoked by a hypervisor agent, and/or stored and replicated from a clone backup directory.

Abstract: Described herein is a system that detects ransomware infection in filesystems. The system detects ransomware infection by using backup data of machines. The system detects ransomware infection in two stages. In the first stage, the system analyzes a filesystem's behavior. The filesystem's behavior can be obtained by loading the backup data and crawling the filesystem to create a filesystem metadata including information about file operations during a time interval. The filesystem determines a pattern of the file operations and compares the pattern to a normal patter to analyze the filesystem's behavior. If the filesystem's behavior is abnormal, the system proceeds to the second stage to analyze the content of the files to look for signs of encryption in the filesystem. The system combines the analysis of both stages to determine whether the filesystem is infected by ransomware.

Abstract: Techniques are disclosed relating to providing data views from a time-series data lake to a data warehousing system. In various embodiments, the disclosed techniques include providing, by a cloud-based service, a data lake service that maintains a time-series data lake storing a time-series representation of data from a plurality of data sources associated with a first organization. In some embodiments, the cloud-based service may receive additional backup data, including a first backup image of a first data source, associated with the first organization as part of a backup operation. The cloud-based service may then store a logical backup of the first data source in the data lake and, in response to a query from a data warehousing system, the cloud-based service may retrieve a particular view of the backup data from the data lake and provide it to the data warehousing system.
