Abstract: A device for acupressuric treatment, more specifically for stimulating the acupoints BL1 and BL2 on both sides of the root of the nose and over the eyes near the root of the nose, consists in accordance with the invention, of a resilient, bow-shaped clip that has pads arranged in pairs symmetrically about a plane of symmetry for this clip, which pads are designed to exert pressure against said acupoints when the bow is arranged over the root of the user's nose. While one set of pads faces in towards the plane of symmetry of the bow, the other set of pads faces sideways out from the plane of the bow.

Abstract: For medicine, sports and cosmonautics, a method of biomechanotherapy massage and therapeutic action on a human body performed both by heat and light waves and by mechanical waves which are sequential and parallel combinations of longitudinal and transverse modulated solitary waves of length from 0.005 to 0.1 m propagating along the body with speed from 0.01 to 12 m/s, where the solitary waves are formed on the body due to an impulsive action of separate thermovibratodes interconnected with a controlled link and acting on a human body with a temperature from 0 to 90null C., a specific pressure from 0.5null105 to 4null105 Pa and a shear thrust from 0.1 to 100 N. The proposed method of biomechanotherapy allows to increase efficiency of the therapeutic and sports massage and to improve results of an integral treatment of various diseases. Wave biomechanotherapy increases 1.5-2 times the peripheral blood flow facilitating the work of the cardiovascular system, improving the rheological properties of blood, blood supply to all organs and the functional condition of these parameters. Wave biomechanotherapy actively stimulates the metabolism, accelerates rehabilitation processes in organs and tissues and increases drainage of decay products from a body in a natural way.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for alleviating excessive pressure development on a body area includes a cushion having bottom and top surfaces which are spaced apart. The top surface has a plurality of channels formed therethrough. A compressible inner layer is disposed between the top and bottom surfaces, and a plurality of elongate, inflexible members are supported by the inner layer and are disposed at least partially within the channels. The members have first ends that extend through the channels to project beyond the top surface. Pressure applied to the first ends causes the members to be displaced axially along the channels toward the bottom surface without deformation. Pressure produced by body contact creates point pressures on the body area, and displacement of the members maintains the plurality of point pressures on the body area, alleviating excessive pressure. The apparatus includes a enclosure cover and the members have large, tapered ends. The apparatus may also include a heating or cooling system and may also be incorporated into a vehicle seat.

Abstract: A therapeutic vibrator comprising a motor contained in a housing, a diaphragm mounted on said housing, and a reciprocating arm connecting the motor to the diaphragm. The housing is fitted with at least one one-way air valve, and at least one air hole so that in operation, the changing volume in the housing effects the pumping of air across the motor and any circuitry to provide cooling. To improve efficiency, a divider plate with at least one air hole is disposed proximate the reciprocating to limit the volume of the pumping chamber.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method for applying external counterpulsation to a patient, including detecting a blood-flow impedance signal, self-adaptive filter processing the detected blood-flow impedance signal, and adjusting inflation of an inflatable member based on the self-adaptive filter processing in order to optimize counterpulsation timing. The present invention further includes an external counterpulsation apparatus providing a high-frequency current source applied to the patient to produce an electrocardiographic signal and a blood flow impedance signal, as well as an amplifier-filter circuit to operably condition the electrocardiographic signal and a heart impedance signal amplifier receiving the blood flow impedance signal. A computer processes the signals and controls a fluid distribution device to distribute compressed fluid to a plurality of inflatable members based on said processed signals.

Abstract: An air-blowing assembly for providing cooling air to the user of a spa, jetted bathtub or other heated water-containing member. The assembly has an air blower with an air blower inlet which received air from outside of the area of the spa. The blower conducts cooling air into a manifold. The manifold directs cooling air out of a series of vents on the upper lip of the spa. The air vents are adjustable in direction so that the user of the spa can direct cooling air to alleviate discomfort from an otherwise hot and moist atmosphere.

Abstract: A method for treating cardiac arrest includes defibrillating the patient and/or ventilating the patient and/or administering a cardiac arrest drug such as epinephrine to resuscitate the patient, and then cooling the patient's body temperature using one or more cooling catheters positioned in the central venous system of the patient and/or particularly cooling the patient's brain temperature using a catheter advanced into the aortic arch or into the carotid artery whereby a bolus of cold saline solution is introduced into the blood supplied to the brain to lower the brain temperature quickly, and further cooling or maintaining the brain temperature at a desired level by pumping coolant in a closed circuit formation between the catheter and the coolant source to remove heat from the blood supplied to the patient's brain.
