Abstract: An assist device includes an upper-body belt attached to the upper body of a user, first and second belts attached to the knees, a first wire coupling the upper-body belt to the first belt, a second wire crossing the first wire, a third wire coupling the upper-body belt to the second belt, a fourth wire crossing the third wire, and a motor coupled to one end of each of the first to fourth wires. When assisting users with walking, tensions equal to a first threshold value or greater are applied to one of the first and second wires and one of the third and fourth wires by the motor at different times. When detecting slacking of the upper-body belt, tensions equal to the first threshold value or greater are simultaneously applied to one of the first and second wires and one of the third and fourth wires by the motor.

Abstract: A first exoskeleton is in communication with a central server or a peripheral device. The first exoskeleton collects first data and transmits the first data to the central server or peripheral device. The central server or peripheral device generates second data using the first data and transmits the second data to the first exoskeleton or a second exoskeleton.

Abstract: An external structural brace apparatus and method for supporting a user on a surface and for the user to ambulate along the surface to relieve shoulder, armpit, hand, foot, and wrist loads, the apparatus includes first and second support beams that each have a telescoping cantilever beam that contacts the surface. The first and second support beams have a primary pivotal couple at one end to one another with a mechanism to create opposite symmetrical movement of the beams. An attachment element supports the user at their torso has a secondary pivotal connection to the first and second beams and third and fourth user handles that are pivotally attached to the first and second beams are for grasping by the user to extend and retract the telescoping cantilever beams to and from the surface at reduced and increased extension and retraction rates for user ease of ambulating along the surface.

Abstract: A medical monitoring and treatment device that includes a therapy delivery interface, a plurality of therapy electrodes coupled to the therapy delivery interface, a plurality of electrocardiogram sensing electrodes to sense electrocardiogram signals of a patient, a sensor interface to receive the electrocardiogram signals and digitize the electrocardiogram signals, and at least one processor coupled to the sensor interface and the therapy delivery interface to analyze the digitized electrocardiogram signals, to detect a cardiac arrhythmia based on the digitized electrocardiogram signals, and to control the therapy delivery interface to apply electrical therapy to the patient based upon the detected cardiac arrhythmia. The at least one processor is further configured to analyze a frequency domain transform of the digitized electrocardiogram signals, to determine a metric indicative of a metabolic state of a heart of the patient, and to accelerate or delay application of the electrical therapy based upon the metric.

Abstract: An orthosis includes a first portion and a second portion configured to attach on opposite sides of a joint. An actuator is configured to apply a force between the first and second portions. The actuator includes a first spool and a second spool rotatably mounted to the first portion. An output pulley is mounted to the second portion. A belt has a first end wrapped around the first spool, a second end wrapped around the second spool, and a mid-portion wrapped around the output pulley. The actuator is configured to rotate the first and second spools. The rotation of the first spool pulls the belt a given length, and the rotation of the second spool feeds the belt less than the given length, so as to pull the output pulley towards the first portion to pull the second portion towards the first portion.

Abstract: A system and method prevents and diagnoses deep vein thrombosis in a body limb by providing a pressure sleeve having a plurality of individually fillable cells, the pressure sleeve being configurable to be placed around a body limb. A source fills each fillable cell individually, and a pressure sensor measures a pressure in a fillable cell. A controller establishes a fill sequence of each individually fillable cell and a fill time for each individually fillable cell. The controller causes a first individually fillable cell of the pressure sleeve to be filled to a predetermined pressure and causes the pressure of first individually fillable cell of the pressure sleeve to be measured while a second individually fillable cell of the pressure sleeve is filled. The controller determines a presence of deep vein thrombosis in a body limb having the pressure sleeve therearound based upon a measured pressure change in the first individually fillable cell of the pressure sleeve. The monitored pressure changes reflects the effect of venous obstruction on naturally occurred venous flow fluctuations like those caused by the respiratory cycle, and/or artificially created fluctuations like those caused by inflation of a second pressure cell. Relevant data can be collected during routine system application for deep vein thrombosis prevention on a 24/7 basis. In the case deep vein thrombosis is suspected, a controlled and more sophisticated study can be triggered using the same system.
