Abstract:
A method for an electrostatic abluminal coating of a stent crimped on a balloon catheter is disclosed. In one form of the method, a stent-balloon assembly is formed by crimping or otherwise mounting a stent on the balloon of a catheter. A conductive wire is thereafter threaded through the lumen of the stent-balloon assembly and a charge is applied thereto. The stent may be grounded or, alternatively, be potentiated with a charge opposite to that of the conductive wire. An electrostatic spray with the same charge as that of the conductive wire may then be applied to the stent-balloon assembly. In this manner, a stent-balloon assembly which is coated on the abluminal surface but substantially or completely free of coating on the luminal surface and the outside surface of the exposed portions of the balloon is realized.
Abstract:
The invention provides apparatus for electrostatically coating a pharmaceutical tablet core with powdered coating material. The apparatus comprises a first rotary drum (12) on which a core is held in electrical isolation from its surroundings but at a potential differecne to earth by an electrode which contacts the core. The core is carried past a coating station B at which particles of powder having an opposite potential difference to earth are held in a tray (18). The surface of the drum is held at the same potential difference to earth as the powder particles. The powder is attracted to the core, and not to the drum, coating the exposed surface of the core. The drum carries the coated core past a fusing station C at which a heater fuses the powder to form a continuous film coating. The core is then turned and transferred onto a second drum (12′) where the other surface is coated in the same way.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for locking a gun. The apparatus includes a dummy round configured for insertion into a firing chamber of a gun, a locking component configured for coupling with the dummy round, and an elongated sleeve rotatably coupled with the locking component. The locking component includes a keyed head positioned within a longitudinal channel of the elongated sleeve. The locking component and elongated sleeve are insertable through the discharge end of a gun's barrel. An actuating mechanism, such as a key is insertable through the channel of the elongated sleeve to engage with the keyed head and rotate the locking mechanism relative to the elongated sleeve. Rotation of the locking mechanism effects a friction lock between the locking mechanism and the dummy round.
Abstract:
A powdery layer is formed on a first side of a web (W) which serves as a substrate by applying electrically charged particles on the web while a rotating grounding electrode is located at a second side of the web.
Abstract:
A continuous web having a first surface and a second surface is coated with a coating powder by allowing the web to move between a first and a second electrode, which are in different potentials and are located on the opposite sides of the web, applying the coating powder on the surface of the web by utilizing the difference in the electric potential, and finishing the coated surface of the web. Both surfaces of the web are coated essentially simultaneously by using oppositely charged electrodes.
Abstract:
A method for coating glass, and specifically to a method for manufacturing perfluoroalkoxy copolymer coated glass. The method includes placing a glass substrate on an electrically grounded support and cleaning the substrate with a solvent to remove impurities and prepare the surface of the substrate to be coated. The method also includes coating the surface with a primer and an electro-conductive enhancer, which is uniformly applied to the primer so that the surface of the glass substrate is wet, but not uneven. The method includes powder spraying the perfluoroalkoxy copolymer on the electro-conductive enhancer while the enhancer is still wet. The method includes securing the perfluoroalkoxy copolymer to the glass substrate by evaporating the electro-conductive enhancer.
Abstract:
A method for electrostatic spray-coating a medical device having a tubular wall, such as a stent, having an inner surface, an outer surface and openings therein. The tubular wall is grounded or electrically charged, and an electrically charged conductive core wire is located axially through the center of the stent. An electrical potential is applied to the conductive core wire to impart an electrical charge to the conductive core wire. The tubular wall is exposed to an electrically charged coating formulation, and the electrically charged coating formulation is deposited onto a portion of the tubular wall to form a coating. The electrical potentials of the conductive core wire and tubular wall can be repeatedly alternated.
