Abstract:
Method, apparatus, and system for monitoring performance within a processing resource, which may be used to modify user-level software. Some embodiments of the invention pertain to an architecture to allow a user to improve software running on a processing resources on a per-thread basis in real-time and without incurring significant processing overhead.
Abstract:
The presently disclosed subject matter includes a system and method which enable to identify one or more causes for excessive energy consumption in a computer executing one or more processes. Information indicating that consumption of a computer-resource of at least one of said processes is greater than a predefined threshold is obtained and one or more threads of said at least one process which are in running state are identified. Thread performance information of at least one thread in running state is collected and used for identifying one or more functions that are the cause for said state of the respective thread. The identified functions are associated with their respective modules in order to identify one or more modules of said process, which are the cause for said excessive energy consumption.
Abstract:
A method of operating a power control device that controls a power device includes subscribing an event for a change in a resource usage state of the power device; and receiving the event for the change in the resource usage state of the power device if the resource usage state of the power device is changed.
Abstract:
Techniques for monitoring resources of a computer system are provided. A monitoring process collects and reports utilization data for one or more resources of a computer system, such as CPU, memory, disk I/O, and network I/O. Instead of reporting just an average of the collected data over a period of time (e.g., 10 seconds), the monitoring process at least reports individually collected resource utilization values. If one or more of the utilization values exceed specified thresholds for the respective resources, then an alert may be generated. In one approach, the monitoring process is made a real-time priority process in the computer system to ensure that the memory used by the monitoring process is not swapped out of memory. Also, being a real-time priority process ensures that the monitoring process obtains a CPU in order collect resource utilization data even when the computer system is in a starvation mode.
Abstract:
A computing device described herein is configured to receive a notification of an event associated with a plurality of system components. In response, the computing device determines a state for the system components based on a state for one of those system components specified in an event model. That specified state in the event model reflects a previous occurrence of another event.
Abstract:
A system and machine-implemented method for determining a cost of an event is provided including detecting an initiation of an event, the event being associated with one or more intended participants, determining an estimated duration of the event and determining a total estimated cost of the event based on the estimated duration of the event and a cost per time unit for each of the one or more intended participants.
Abstract:
A system and method for controlling an integration of data processing resources. A first endpoint node is selected, wherein the first endpoint node comprises information for using first data processing resources in a data processing environment. A second endpoint node is selected, wherein the second endpoint node comprises information for using second data processing resources in the data processing environment, wherein the second data processing resources comprise data processing resources provided as a service by a provider of data processing resources. An integration node is selected, wherein the integration node comprises information for establishing connectivity between the first data processing resources and the second data processing resources. Integration of the first data processing resources and the second data processing resources is controlled to process a workload using the first endpoint node, the second endpoint node, and the integration node.
Abstract:
A monitoring information reporting system for a client computer, the system provides monitoring information to a server computer which receives monitoring information for analysis. The system provides a framework for a client computer to identify to a server computer the monitoring information it can provide. The server computer then determines, based on the notification, whether monitoring information is to be provided, and if so, the specific monitoring information that will be provided. When monitoring information is to be provided, the server computer sends a response to the client computer with a command to control the client computer to collect monitoring information, which is then provided to the server computer. In this way, the server computer can control the amount and nature of monitoring information collected and transferred.
Abstract:
Methods, apparatuses, and computer program products for event and alert analysis are provided. Embodiments include a local event analyzer embedded in an alert analyzer receiving events from an event queue. Embodiments also include the local event analyzer creating, based on the received events and local event analysis rules specific to the alert analyzer, a temporary alert for the alert analyzer. Embodiments also include the alert analyzer analyzing the temporary alert based on alert analysis rules.
Abstract:
A system that displays performance data for a computing environment. During operation, the system determines performance states for a plurality of entities that comprise the computing environment based on values of a performance metric for the entities. Next, the system displays the computing environment as a tree comprising nodes representing the plurality of entities and edges representing parent-child relationships between the plurality of entities. Then, for each parent node in the tree, the system determines counts of one or more performance states for descendants of the parent node in the tree. Finally, the system displays a graphical representation of the determined counts while displaying the parent node. In some embodiments, displaying the graphical representation of the determined counts includes displaying a circular ring comprising visually distinct sections associated with different performance states, wherein the visually distinct sections are sized proportionately with the determined counts for the associated performance states.
