Abstract: An oil filter for a motor vehicle has a filter cartridge which is disposed in an oil filter housing of the oil filter. The filter cartridge has a channel for filtered oil which is surrounded at least regionally by a filter material in the radial direction. At least one through opening is formed in a wall of the channel. An emergence of filtered oil via the at least one through opening into a channel for the filtered oil provided on sides of the oil filter housing is preventable by bringing the filter cartridge into a first position. An inlet into the channel provided on sides of the oil filter housing fluidically connectable to the at least one through opening by bringing the filter cartridge into a second position in which the filter cartridge is shifted relative to the first position in an axial direction.

Abstract: A method and means are described for rapidly evacuating trapped air from the top of a top-loaded liquid filter housing. An air vent means is provided that prevents complete sealing between a bypass valve and a sealing surface on an endcap of a replaceable filter element. The air vent means enables the rapid evacuation of trapped air in the top of the housing chamber, but permits only a negligible flow rate of liquid, for example oil, through the air vent means once air is evacuated due to high viscosity ratio of liquid, such as oil, versus air.

Abstract: A filter device may include a filter housing with a filter housing pot and a cover screwable onto the filter housing pot, and an annular filter element arranged in the filter housing and having an axially protruding pin for closing a run-off channel. The annular filter element may be connected to the cover via a first thread, which may have a dome protruding centrally and axially from an upper end disc of the annular filter element, with an outer thread interrupted by free passages, and hollow cylindrical spring elements, which may protrude axially from the cover and on which an inner thread portion designed to complement the outer thread may be arranged. Each inner thread portion may extend over a longer circumferential portion than one of the free passages. The first thread may be designed running counter to a second thread arranged between the filter housing pot and the cover.

Abstract: A filter element is provided with a snorkel that facilitates bleeding of air along the outside periphery of a tubular filter media pack to a bleed chamber contained within the filter element. This may be employed in fuel filtration applications during installation and removal of filter elements whereby air can be temporarily trapped in a housing containing the filter element. The snorkel thus vents the air along the outside of the filter element and then into a bleed chamber where it can be communicated to a standpipe having an isolated bleed passage.

Abstract: A draw latch retainer is used to secure a filter cartridge to a filter head. A cam actuated retainer extends from the head to engage a keeper in the top of the cartridge. Rotation of the cam draws the retainer and cartridge axially toward the head into an installed position. The retainer extends through an aperture in the upper portion of the cartridge to apply a retention force against the bottom side of the keeper. The keeper and upper portion of the cartridge supporting the keeper are configured to transmit the retaining force laterally across the top of the cartridge. A pair of axial conduits project from the cartridge and mount O-ring seals for implementing an axial sealing interface with passages in the head.
