Abstract: A catalyst includes a mesoporous material and catalytic metal particles supported at least within the mesoporous material and containing platinum and a metal different from platinum. The mesoporous material has mesopores with a mode radius of 1 to 25 nm and a pore volume of 1.0 to 3.0 cm3/g before supporting of the catalytic metal particles, and has an average particle size of greater than or equal to 200 nm. A molar ratio of the metal different from platinum and contained in the catalytic metal particles relative to all metals contained in the catalytic metal particles is greater than or equal to 0.25, and among the catalytic metal particles, a volume ratio of catalytic metal particles having a particle size of greater than or equal to 20 nm is less than or equal to 10%.

Abstract: A porous alpha-alumina catalyst support is prepared by (i) preparing a precursor material comprising a boehmitic-derived alumina having a pore volume of at least 0.6 mL/g, wherein the boehmitic-derived alumina is obtained by thermal decomposition of a boehmitic starting material and the boehmitic starting material consists predominantly of block-shaped crystals, and optionally an inorganic bond material; (ii) forming the precursor material into shaped bodies; (iii) calcining the shaped bodies to obtain the porous alpha-alumina catalyst support. The support structure has a high overall pore volume, while keeping its surface area sufficiently large so as to provide optimal dispersion of catalytically active species, in particular metal species. The support is useful for a catalyst for producing ethylene oxide by gas-phase oxidation of ethylene.

Abstract: Catalysts for the hydrogenolysis of butane are described. A supported catalyst for hydrogenolysis of butane to ethane can include a support and a catalytic crystalline bimetallic composition that can include a molybdenum-iridium (Mo—Ir) crystalline composition attached to the support. The supported catalyst has a BET specific surface area of at least 100 m2/g, preferably 100 m2/g to 500 m2/g. Method of use and methods of making the catalyst are also described.

Abstract: A method for preparing a hydrocracking catalyst comprising: (i) providing a shaped body comprising a zeolite and a binder, wherein the shaped body has been obtained by shaping, calcination and cooling, wherein the zeolite is ZSM-5 having a silica (SiO2) to alumina (Al2O3) molar ratio of 25-75; (ii) optionally drying the shaped body at a temperature of 100-300° C. for a period of at least 1 hour; (iii) depositing a hydrogenation metal on the shaped body by an impregnation for a period of at most 2 hours such that the amount of the hydrogenation metal is 0.010-0.30 wt % with respect to the total catalyst; (iv) optionally rinsing the metal deposited shaped body with water; and (v) heat-treating the metal deposited shaped body in air at a temperature of 250-300° C. for a period of 1-5 hours; wherein the catalyst comprises a total of less than 0.05 wt % sodium and cesium.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a process to treat a ferrite based catalyst useful in the oxidative dehydrogenation of monololefins and diolefins which process includes a preheat step prior to use of the catalyst in the OXO-D reactor. The catalyst is preferably a zinc ferrite catalyst for the production of butadiene. It has been observed that substantially no nitrogen oxide emissions result from the use of this treated catalyst in the reactor unit during the oxidative dehydrogenation reaction.
