Abstract:
Devices, systems and methods are described which control blood pressure and nervous system activity by stimulating baroreceptors. By selectively and controllably activating baroreceptors and/or nerves, the present disclosure reduces blood pressure and alters the sympathetic nervous system; thereby minimizing deleterious effects on the heart, vasculature and other organs and tissues. A baroreceptor activation device or other sensory activation device is positioned near a dermal bone to provide the treatment.
Abstract:
Cognitive orthotics. More specifically, assistive ambulation systems and methods, including systems that can detect a person who uses an assistive ambulation device (such as a walker) and produce a signal in response to the detection, which signal is designed to encourage or motivate the person to use the device. They system may also stop the signal when the person engages the device and/or produce an additional signal or a different signal when the person engages the device.
Abstract:
An object of the present invention is to care for the occipital region supported with an occipital region supporter, without leaving an uncared-for part thereof, at time of automatic care of the person's head. In order to achieve the object, an automatic head washing apparatus 11 according to the present invention, is an automatic head care apparatus that cares for a person's head automatically, which has a first end effector 13 and a second end effector 16, and which is controlled by a plurality of modes including: a first mode for rubbing a second region 24 of the occipital region 22 by moving the second end effector 16 in a state in which the first end effector 13 contacts a first region 23 of the occipital region 22 of the person with the first end effector 13 being fixed at a first position; and a second mode for rubbing a first region 23 of the occipital region 22 by moving the first end effector 13 in a state in which the second end effector 16 contacts a second region 24 of the occipital region 22 with the second end effector 16 being fixed at a second position.
Abstract:
System and method for giving an audible direction indication towards an eyewash. A first input device may receive a first indication from a user, the first indication suggesting that the eyewash is needed. An audio device may generate an audio signal, upon the receiving of the first indication, the audio signal indicative of the location of the eyewash.
Abstract:
This invention described herein includes methods and apparatuses for externally delivering therapeutic stimulation to animals and humans to help improve their health, condition and performance. The invention includes various wearable, attachable, and embeddable devices that deliver multiple forms of therapeutic stimulation or vibration such as mechanical, tonal, audio, light, and electrical pulses.
Abstract:
Stimulation devices and methods of use are described herein. An example stimulation device configured to stimulate a portion of a body of a user comprises a housing that includes a casing and a covering. The casing includes a nozzle, a motor disposed within the casing configured to generate stimulation patterns, a drive shaft connected to the motor, a sensor configured to detect changes in the rotation of the draft shaft, a controller, and a battery. The covering covers a portion of the casing.
Abstract:
Embodiments provide devices, systems and methods for preventing deep vein (DV) thrombosis (DVT). One embodiment provides a DVT prevention device comprising a cuff that fits over a patient's leg, an applanator coupled to an inside cuff surface, an expandable member (EM) coupled to the applanator, a pressure source fluidically coupled to the EM and a controller for controlling inflation of the EM. When the EM is expanded, it applies a force to the applanator which is transmitted by the applanator as a force to the leg surface which causes a DV under the cuff to be compressed so as to minimize blood flow through the DV. The EM is then deflated, stopping DV compression and blood flow resumes. The EM can be inflated in a cycle including pulsed inflation, inflation hold and relaxation. The cycles can be repeated and adjusted to achieve a desired increase of flow/velocity in the DV.
Abstract:
A support unit is connected to a shaft of a main wheel and thus is always maintained in parallel to or at a predetermined angle to a road surface, independently of an inclination angle of a main body. Accordingly, an incline estimating unit regards an inclination angle θ3 being a value in an inclination sensor as being equal to an inclination angle θ2 of the road surface (or in a case where the support unit is inclined a predetermined angle to the road surface, an angle from θ3 to the predetermined angle is subtracted from or added to the crossing angle) and outputs the estimated inclination angle θ2 of the road surface to a target inclination angle determining unit.
Abstract:
A mobile automatic massage apparatus which includes a base of an automatic guided vehicle and a few robotic arms attached above it. A 3D scanner on the pole behind the touch screen monitor takes images of the surrounding environment and guides the movement of the vehicle and positioning of the arms. The hands attached to the robotic arms perform the massage according to the programs of a central computer. This massage apparatus can perform similar professional massage provided by the physicians or therapists to improve the blood circulation of the patients and reduce the pain.
Abstract:
A motorized walker is provided that can enable users to walk without being slowed by the walker and without needing to exert themselves to push the walker forward. The motorized walker provides additional haptic speed cues to inform the user's posture and locomotion control to prevent falling.
