Abstract: A weather resistive barrier (WRB) for the exterior protection of building substrates can have a water vapor permeability that decreases with increasing temperature. In an embodiment, the WRB includes a coating comprising a LCST polymer, and may further include a second polymer. The WRB can be part of a building assembly, part of a sheet, or a sheet itself, the sheet having an air permeability of less than 0.02 L/(s m2) at a pressure of 75 Pa. Furthermore a liquid coating composition can include a LCST polymer and a second polymer, wherein the liquid coating composition can be adapted that a solid coating formed by the liquid coating composition has an air permeability of less than 0.02 L/(s m2) at a pressure of 75 Pa and a water vapor permeability that decreases with increasing temperature.

Abstract: Methods for treating panels are described that include coating a wood substrate with a polymeric solution, curing the coated wood substrate by subjecting the coated wood to ultraviolet radiation and causing the polymeric solution to crosslink to produce a fire-resistant veneer. Also described is a composite material comprising a wood substrate layer, and a UV-cured flame retardant coating the wood substrate layer, wherein the composite material has a Flame Spread Index values within 0 to 25 and a Smoke Developed Index of 450 or lower.

Abstract: A microencapsulated pigment including a leuco dye system is incorporated as one or more layers in a roll of adhesive tape. The tape is applied and may be rubbed by hand or another object to induce a color change. The change may serve as an indicator that the tape is well adhered for masking purposes in a painting operation, or to present a design where only selected portions of the tape are rubbed to induce the color change. The microencapsulated pigment may be constructed so that the color change is irreversible or reversible.

Abstract: A process for producing a highly oriented graphene oxide (GO) film, comprising: (a) preparing either a GO dispersion having GO sheets dispersed in a fluid medium or a GO gel having GO molecules dissolved in a fluid medium; (b) dispensing the GO dispersion or gel onto a surface of an application roller rotating in a first direction to form an applicator layer of GO and transferring the applicator layer to a surface of a supporting film driven in a second direction opposite to the first direction to form a wet layer of GO on the supporting film; and (c) removing said fluid medium from the wet layer of GO to form a dried layer of GO having an inter-planar spacing d002 of 0.4 nm to 1.2 nm and an oxygen content no less than 5% by weight. This dried GO layer may be heat-treated to produce a graphitic film.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for the preparation of a coating comprising at least one coating layer on a solid substrate, said method comprising the steps of a, providing monomers of the type R—(N)x-(L)m-(C≡C)n-(L′]o(N′)y—R′, wherein R is a head moiety, R′ is a tail moiety, (C≡C)n is an oligoyne moiety, L and L′ are linker moieties, N and N′ independently are branched or unbranched optionally substituted C1-C25 alkyl moieties optionally containing 1 to 5 heteroatoms, x, m, o, and y are independently 0 or 1, n is 4 to 12, and wherein said head moiety allows for an interaction with the surface of said solid substrate; b. bringing said monomers into contact with said solid substrate wherein said interaction of said head moieties of said monomers with the surface of said solid substrate induces at least a part of said monomers to align in a defined manner thereby forming a film on said surface and bringing said oligoyne moieties of said monomers into close contact with each other; c. inducing a reaction between oligoyne moieties by providing an external stimulus so as to at least partially cross-link said aligned monomers, thereby forming a coating layer on said solid substrate. The invention further relates to a coating obtainable according to the method of the invention, the use of a coating obtainable according to the method of the invention, a solid substrate comprising a coating obtainable according to the invention and the use of the solid substrate.

Abstract: A one-step headlight restoration formulation is also provided that includes a polyurethane dispersion of aliphatic polycarbonate urethane present from 20 to 85 total weight percent, along with a wetting agent present from 1 to 4 total weight percent. A biocide is present from 0.005 to 0.5 total weight percent of the formulation. A carrier constitutes the remainder of the formulation. A kit for a one-step headlight restoration is provided that includes a wipe for applying said formulation to a headlight surface in need of resurfacing as a one step process. The process of using the kit includes removing a formulation impregnated wipe from an envelope and contacting the wipe with the headlight surface to apply said formulation by wiping evenly on a headlight lens surface to form a restorative film.
