Abstract: A tool for scaling media utilizing healthy regions of a data storage cartridge. The tool determines a health status index for one or more regions of a data storage cartridge. The tool records the health status index to a cartridge memory and housekeeping dataset of the data storage cartridge. The tool determines one or more available regions of the data storage cartridge, based, at least in part, on a capacity designation and the health status index for the one or more regions. The tool returns the one or more available regions and a reduced capacity for the data storage cartridge to a user.

Abstract: Embodiments automate the timely remediation of issues by matching failed operations to a script that is configured to fix the problem or problems without causing additional side effects, thus minimizing unavailability of services and loss of data. A method detects a backup operation alert message sent from a data manager or storage system that encodes one or more attributes affected by the backup operation, wherein the attributes are weighted to reflect a percentage importance of the a corresponding script to fix the problem. A script library is scanned to identify scripts that match the alert message. A component generates a score for each script, where the score factors the relevance of the script to the backup operation based on the weighted attributes, and executes the script with the highest score, as the script most likely to fix the issue causing the alert message.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer-readable media for a cell-based storage system with failure isolation are disclosed. A first subset of storage nodes is selected from a set of storage nodes of a data store and assigned to a first partition of data. Replicas of the first partition are stored using the first subset. A second subset of storage nodes is selected from the set of storage nodes and assigned to a second partition of data. The second subset is selected based (at least in part) on the membership of the first subset, and the second subset comprises at least one node not present in the first. Replicas of the second partition are stored using the second subset. Access requests associated with the first partition are routed to the first subset of storage nodes. Access requests associated with the second partition are routed to the second subset of storage nodes.

Abstract: An individual data unit for enhancing the security of a user data record is provided that includes a processor and a memory configured to store data. The individual data unit is associated with a network and the memory is in communication with the processor. The memory has instructions stored thereon which, when read and executed by the processor cause the individual data unit to perform basic operations only. The basic operations include communicating securely with computing devices, computer systems, and a central user data server. Moreover, the basic operations include receiving a user data record, storing the user data record, retrieving the user data record, and transmitting the user data record. The individual data unit can be located in a geographic location associated with the user which can be different than the geographic locations of the computer systems and the central user data server.

The extension agent may be configured to identify and enumerate a firmware volume of a second non-transitory computer-readable media communicatively coupled to the processor and having stored thereon a BIOS extension comprising BIOS extension firmware for executing completion of BIOS execution from the particular portion of BIOS execution and in response to unavailability of the firmware volume of the second non-transitory computer-readable media, failover to and recover the BIOS extension from extended firmware information stored on a networked storage resource communicatively coupled to the information handling system.

Abstract: Various systems and methods may be used to implement a software defined industrial system. For example, an orchestrated system of distributed nodes may run an application, including modules implemented on the distributed nodes. The orchestrated system may include an orchestration server, a first node executing a first module, and a second node executing a second module. In response to the second node failing, the second module may be redeployed to a replacement node (e.g., the first node or a different node). The replacement mode may be determined by the first node or another node, for example based on connections to or from the second node.

Abstract: In various examples, a computing device of a dispersed storage network (DSN) receives a store data request including a data object. The computing device identifies a storage unit pool associated with the store data request. The storage unit pool includes a plurality of storage sets, each of the storage sets associated with a plurality of address ranges that are associated with a respective set of memories of the storage set. The computing device identifies a first set of memories of a first storage set of the storage unit pool, and issues a set of write slice requests to the first set of memories to initiate storage of encoded data slices produced from the data object. When an unfavorable storage condition is detected, the computing device identifies a second set of memories of the first storage set and facilitates storage of the data object in the second set of memories.

Abstract: A data storage device includes a non-volatile memory device including a memory block having a number of arrays, a number of power regulators, and a controller coupled to the non-volatile memory device. The arrays include a number of memory devices. A first array is determined to be in a non-responsive condition and a power regulator supplying power to the first array is instructed to cycle power to the first array. After the power to the first array has been cycled, a determination is made as to whether the first array is in a responsive condition.
