Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for conveniently preparing a supported cobalt-containing Fischer-Tropsch synthesis catalyst having improved activity and selectivity for C5+ hydrocarbons. In one aspect, the present invention provides a process for preparing a supported cobalt-containing Fischer-Tropsch synthesis catalyst, said process comprising the steps of: (a) impregnating a support material with: i) a cobalt-containing compound and ii) acetic acid, or a manganese salt of acetic acid, in a single impregnation step to form an impregnated support material; and (b) drying and calcining the impregnated support material; wherein the support material impregnated in step (a) has not previously been modified with a source of metal other than cobalt; and wherein when the cobalt-containing compound is cobalt hydroxide, a manganese salt of acetic acid is not used in step (a) of the process.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates generally to compositions and processes for producing Fischer-Tropsch catalysts. In particular, the disclosure provides for a process for producing a product composition comprising alcohols and liquid hydrocarbons via a Fischer-Tropsch synthesis reaction, the process comprising: contacting a mixture of hydrogen and a gaseous carbon oxide that is carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide or a combination thereof and an olefin co-feed with a supported cobalt-manganese Fischer-Tropsch synthesis catalyst to provide the product composition; wherein the olefin co-feed comprises at least one C2-C14 olefin and is present in an amount in the range of 0.001 wt % to 40 wt % relative to the total amount of hydrogen, the gaseous carbon oxide and olefin; wherein a weight ratio of manganese to cobalt in the catalyst is at least 0.05 on an elemental basis.

Abstract: The present invention provides a process for upgrading a Fischer-Tropsch product by hydrocracking in the presence of a hydrocracking catalyst in a reactor, wherein the process is initiated by a series of steps (i) to (iv). The hydrocracking catalyst is (i) contacted with a hydrogen-containing stream having a feed temperature of from 360° C. to 420° C.; (ii) the feed temperature of the hydrogen-containing stream is reduced to a temperature of from 220° C. to 280° C.; (iii) the catalyst is contacted with a Fischer-Tropsch product stream having a feed temperature of from 220° C. to 280° C., which is co-fed with the hydrogen-containing stream; and (iv) the catalyst is co-fed with a Fischer-Tropsch product stream and hydrogen-containing stream having feed temperatures of from 380° C. and 400° C. for at least four days and wherein the hydrocracking catalyst is not activated by sulfiding.
