Abstract:
The use of polycyclic phenolic compounds which have up to 20 benzene rings per molecule and are obtainable by reacting a tetrahydrobenzoxazine I where R1 is a hydrocarbyl radical and R2, R3, R4 and R5 are each independently hydrogen atoms, hydroxyl groups or hydrocarbyl radicals with one or more of the same or different phenols II where R7, R8, R9 and R10 are each independently hydrogen atoms, hydroxyl groups or hydrocarbyl radicals, and/or with one or more of the same or different tetrahydrobenzoxazines I, with the proviso that at least one of the substituents has from 13 to 3000 carbon atoms and the remaining substituents, when they are hydrocarbyl radicals, have in each case from 1 to 20 carbon atoms as stabilizers for stabilizing inanimate organic material against the action of light, oxygen and heat.

Abstract:
A process for the preparation of polyalkenylsuccinimide products, in particular polyisobutenylsuccinimide products, is proposed, in which a polyalkene is reacted with a maleic acid, maleic anhydride or a functional derivative thereof to give a polyalkenylsuccinic anhydride and the polyalkenylsuccinic anhydride is then reacted with an oligoamine or polyamine, the polyalkenylsuccinic anhydride either (a) first being reacted with an alcohol or phenol and, without isolation of the reaction product, then with the oligoamine or polyamine, or (b) the polyalkenylsuccinic anhydride being reacted with the oligoamine or polyamine in the presence of an alcohol or phenol and (c) if desired, the alcohol or the phenol then being removed. Novel polyalkenylsuccinimide products, in particular polyisobutenylsuccinimide products, and fuel additives are also proposed.
Abstract:
A polyester is used as an elastomer component for gum bases. A method of making gum bases which include such polyesters is also disclosed. The polyester includes as polyester-forming components in condensed form; a) at least one aliphatic dicarboxylic acid; b) at least one aliphatic diol; and c) at least one compound having at least three groups capable of ester formation in an amount of from 0.1 to 10.0% by weight, based on the total weight of the polyester, wherein the polyester includes the components a) and b) in an amount of at least 90, in particular at least 95% by weight, based on the total weight of the polyester.
Abstract:
A description is given of a semi-interpenetrating network having a first phase of a linear noncrosslinked isobutene polymer and a second phase of a crosslinked polymer, wherein the crosslinked polymer is obtained by crosslinking molecular enlargement reaction in the presence of the isobutene polymer. The crosslinked polymer is preferably obtained by free-radical polymerization of ethylenically unsaturated monomers comprising at least one polyethylenically unsaturated monomer. The networks are suitable as molding compounds having gas and moisture barrier effect or as adhesives.

Abstract:
A process is described for functionalizing isobutene polymers having terminal olefinic unsaturation by treating with the reaction product of a borane source with from 0.5 to 1.8 equivalents of an alkene having a molecular weight of less than 250 per mole of borane or by treating the isobutene polymer with the borane source in the presence of the alkene. The reaction mixtures retain low viscosity and good stirrability.

Abstract:
The present invention relates to a process for preparing synthetic hydrocarbons which comprises the oligomerization of 1-olefins having from 8 to 30 carbon atoms.
Abstract:
Polyalkenylsuccinic acid derivatives are prepared by reacting oligo- or polyolefins having a number average molecular weight (M.sub.N) of from 500 to 10,000 with maleic acid derivatives I ##STR1## where R and R', independently of one another, are each hydroxyl, lower alkyl or halogen or together are oxygen, at elevated temperatures by a process in which effective amounts of free radical acceptors, such as oxygen, are present in the gas phase and in the liquid phase of the reacting system during the reaction. These polyalkenylsuccinic acid derivatives are suitable, after additional imidation, amidation or esterification, as fuel and lubricant additives.
