Abstract:
An instrument, article and method are provided for minimizing pain during administration by injection of a liquid, such as, an anesthetic. The instrument has a forward end. A lightpipe mounted freely for vibration projects out of the forward end. The article, a single use tip, is composed of a tip sleeve removably mounted on the forward end of the instrument and a tip member removably mounted on the projecting lightpipe to vibrate a preselected injection site on a human or animal. The tip sleeve and tip member are covered by an elastic overmold that enables the tip member to vibrate freely with respect to the tip sleeve and light from the lightpipe to illuminate the injection site. A vibration unit mounted in the instrument is coupled to the lightpipe. The method is carried out by imparting vibrations and illumination via the lightpipe to the tip member.
Abstract:
A specialized bed is described, FIGS. 2 and 3, that will prevent bedsores, heal existing bedsores, with no repositioning of patient required. With modifications it will be an effective massager, FIGS. 14 and 15. The following is a description for Bedsores Therapy. The electro-mechanically powered bed, designed for resting of a living body that has limited or no capability of motion by self, has its resting area composed of movable Bed Elements, FIGS. 5 and 6. The sequential lowering of these Bed Elements from contact with the body for sufficient length of time reestablishes blood circulation near skin in the regions that had been starved of blood. Down and up motion of the Bed Elements is created by Gear Motor Drive 30 which rotates two Camshaft assemblies 28L and 28R. A series of Cams 82, arranged with gradual phase shift, give the down and up movements to the Bed Elements in a desired sequential and cyclical manner.
Abstract:
An exercising apparatus which enables a user to perform stepping exercises and waist twisting exercises simultaneously. The apparatus is provided with an electric motor without an increase in its size and cost, and this enables the user to perform effective exercises. The exercising apparatus (1) has left and right footboards (2L, 2R); an oscillation mechanism (10) for making the left and right footboards (2L, 2R) oscillate vertically about an oscillating spindle (27) provided on the front side of the left and right footboards (2L, 2R); a swing mechanism (11) for making the left and right footboards (2L, 2R) swing in a reciprocating fashion in the left-right direction with the boards (2L, 2R) maintained adjacent to each other, the boards (2L, 2R) swinging about a swing spindle (15) having a vertical axis; and an electric motor (12) for driving the oscillating mechanism (10) and the swing mechanism (11) simultaneously.
Abstract:
Portable devices and methods for preventing deep vein thrombosis (DVT) by assuring that the ankle is flexed and extended sufficiently to promote blood flow in the lower leg are disclosed. The device includes an actuator with a free movement mode that allows a patient to move freely between activations or to initiate movement to delay a next automatic activation.
Abstract:
A foot massager apparatus (10) includes a flexible membrane (16) that transmits percussive forces to the water above the membrane (16) to provide massaging, percussive water wave effects, audio speakers (100), mp3 player capability (106), and voice data input capability.
Abstract:
The present invention provides an air control valve for hydrotherapy equipment. The air control valve incrementally controls the supply of air to a venturi jet of the hydrotherapy equipment, thus regulating the flow of air that is mixed with water passing through the venturi jet. Various embodiments of the invention comprise a cammed assembly that translates axial movement of at least one axial member into rotational movement of at least one rotational member, thereby regulating the volume of air flow through a conduit communicating with the air control valve and the venturi jet. Further, various embodiments comprise a push button air control valve that actuates incremental regulation of the air flow volume to the venturi jet.
Abstract:
A therapeutic device, such as an exercise device, includes the principles of osteogenic repair by incorporating a loading mechanism into the exercise device. By doing so, the therapeutic device provides an increased osteogenic effect, thereby enhancing the benefits of the therapy. As an example, a exercise device includes a support surface for supporting all or part of the bodily tissue of an individual using the device. A linear or rotary loading mechanism associated with the frame or a rotational element of the exercise device drives the support surface at a selected load and frequency, thereby inducing mechanical loading of bodily tissue adjacent to the support surface sufficiently to facilitate the growth, development, strengthening, and/or healing of bone tissue. The loading mechanism may be incorporated into any exercise device, including standard exercise devices such as rowing machines, stair climbing machines, elliptical trainers, bicycles, cross-country ski trainers, treadmills, or weight trainers.
Abstract:
A method of conditioning a body for swimming in conjunction with an inclined bench of the type having a sliding top carriage comprising the steps of: a) providing i) a vibration generation unit having a housing containing vibration generation and a vibrating member; ii) a member attachment to facilitate transmission of the generated vibration to the body; and a base for the vibration generation unit capable of orienting the vibrating member in a position generally parallel to an incline of the bench; b) orienting the vibration generation unit on the base so that its vibrating member reciprocates on a plane generally parallel to the bench; and, c) positioning and securing the vibration generation unit beneath the bench. Then a swimmer lying face down on and carried by the carriage can slide the carriage cyclically along the incline by pressing his hands on the vibrating member attachment specifically conditioning his arms and upper torso.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method of operating a percussive massage device for smoothing the skin and fat irregularities associated with any liposuction procedure including suction assisted lipectomy, ultrasonic assisted lipectomy, and direct lipectomy; improving the contour irregularities assisted with any liposuction procedure; preconditioning the skin and fat prior to any liposuction procedure to minimize blood vessel damage; removing scar tissue from patients who have recently undergone any liposuction procedure, and treating skin irregularities due to “cellulite”.
Abstract:
A driving apparatus of a massaging device for sexual organs comprises a pedestal, a driving device fixed detachably on the pedestal, and moving means provided on the driving device, to which a massaging device for sexual organs is attached. The moving means is moved reciprocally linearly, and vertically substantially, and the massaging device is for male sex organs. The moving means is moved reciprocally linearly, and obliquely substantially, and the massaging device is for female sex organs. A motion of lateral direction is added to the moving means so as to move the moving means along an endless loop.
