Abstract:
METHOD FOR THE DETERMINATION OF THE HAEMOGLOBIN COMTENT IN BLOOD. A BLOOD SAMPLE IS MIXED WITH A SOLUTION OF PERCHORIC ACID IN ACETIC ACID AND THE MIXTURE IS CHECKED FOR COMPLETE NEUTRALIZATION OF THE PERCHLORIC ACID ADDED. THE AMOUNT OF PERCHLORIC ACID USED IS SELECTED IN SUCH A WAY THAN AN ARBITRARY PRE-SELECTED AMOUNT OF HAEMOGLOBIN IS NEUTRALIZED. TO DETERMINE COMPLETENESS OF THE NEUTRALIZATIONL, A COLOR INDICATION MAY BE USED ADVANTAGEOUSLY.
Abstract:
In containers having an integrally molded cap and sealing web, an integral handle, preferably on the mold parting line and extending from the cap, enables cap removal with low force. A fulcrum, within or without the container, cooperates with the handle to open the container.
Abstract:
A NOVEL SERIES OF DIARYL HYDROXYETHYL TERTINARY AMINES REPRESENTED BY GENERAL FORMULAE I AND II
(I) HO-C(-AR)2-CH2-N(-R)2
(II) HO-C WHEREIN AR REPRESENTS AN ARYL RADICAL, NR2 SIGNIFIES A TERTIARY AMINE IN FORMULA I, AND X REPRESENTS O, S, -NCH3, -CH2-CH2-, -CH=CH- AND A DIRECT SINGLE BOND, NR2 IS A PREVIOUSLY DESRIBED IN FORMULA II. THE NOVEL METHOD FOR MAKING THESE COMPOUNDS COMPRISES FIRST REACTING THE APPROPRIATE DIARYL KETONE WITH AN ALKALI METAL REDUCING AGENT, FOLLOWED BY ALKYLATION WITH A SODIUM FORMALDEHYDE BISULPHITE DERIVATIVE OF A SECONDARY AMINE TO YELD THE FINAL PRODUCT. THE COMPOUNDS MADE ACCORDING TO THIS NOVEL PROCESS ARE USEFUL AS ANTISPASMODIC AGENTS.
Abstract:
COMPOUNDS COMPRISING DISUBSTITUTED ACYL AMIDE OXIMES WITH ONE OF THE SUBSTITUENTS BEING 5-NITRO-2-FURYL. THESE COMPOUNDS ARE USEFUL AS ANTIBACTERIAL AND ANTIFUNGAL AGENTS.
Abstract:
CRYSTALLINE, PURE PIPERAZINE ESTRONE SULFATE IS OBTAINED BY REFLUXING THE CRUDE MATERIAL IN A LOW-BOILING ALCHOL CONTAINING A SMALL AMOUNT OF A WEAK BASE AND A SMALL AMOUNT OF WATER, FILTERING THE SOLUTION WHILE STILL HOT, CONCENTRATING THE FILTRATE AND COOLING IT SLOWLY.
Abstract:
An infant feeding unit for the feeding of precise quantities of formula to an infant and which comprises a container calibrated for accurate measurement of liquid contents within the container and including a nipple and a retaining cap for retaining the nipple on the container. Included in the unit is a transfer cap engageable with both the calibrated container and a conventional infant feeding container, and including a projecting hub. The transfer cap is used to facilitate transfer of formula from the conventional container to the calibrated container, the hub being adapted for engagement with an infant feeding catheter whereby, when attached to the calibrated container, the unit can be used for feeding of an infant by the gavage method when the infant cannot be fed orally.
Abstract:
THE 2''-O-ALKANOYL-4''-ALKANOYLOXY DERIVATIVES OF ERYTHROMYCIN A AND B ARE PREPARED BY REACTING 4''-HYDROXYERYTHROMYCIN A OR B WITH AN APPROPRIATE ACID ANHYDRIDE. THE RESULTING PRODCUTS HAVE ANTIBIOTIC ACTIVITY AGAINST STAPHYLOCOCCUS AUREUS SMITH.
Abstract:
A portable resuscitator comprising: an open top casing; a lid hingedly mounted on the casing; a container of oxygen under pressure removably positioned in the casing; a bellows-type pump in the casing having an air inlet; a conduit connecting said container and pump and including an adjustable regulator valve; a motor operatively connected to the pump; a battery powering the motor; a flexible hose having one end connected to the pump and a deformable face mask at the other end; a one-way valve at the joindure of said hose and mask; an exhalation valve carried by the mask; and an electric circuit including said battery, motor, a lid operated switch and a second switch operated by the deformable edge of the mask.
