Abstract: The present invention provides an instrument and method for measuring total luminous flux of luminous elements, which forms an approximately uniform spatial intensity distribution by simultaneously lighting a plurality of luminous elements for measurement in an integrating sphere when comparing a total luminous flux standard lamp with the luminous elements to measure the total luminous flux of the luminous elements, thus not requiring spatial mismatch error correction.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for detecting ambient light with reduced sensitivity to infrared sources. An electronic device may include an infrared sensor, an ambient light sensor, a decoder, and a processor. The infrared sensor may detect an intensity of infrared light. The ambient light sensor may be configured to detect incident light and to generate an electronic signal indicative of an intensity of visible light. The decoder may be configured to receive the intensity of infrared light and to generate an intensity of decoded infrared light. The processor, which may be coupled to the decoder and the ambient light sensor, may be configured to substitute an alternate electronic signal for the electronic signal if the intensity of infrared light exceeds a threshold amount.

Abstract: In a reflection type proximity detector or method, a controller calculates a calibration value based on ambient conditions with the transmitter off and then performs tests. In each test, the calibration value is added to and subtracted from a measured value taken with the transmitter in one state (on or off) and a second measured value is then taken and compared with this range. In tests where the transmitter is switched from off to on between the measurements and the second value exceeds the range, and tests where the transmitter is switched from on to off between the measurements and the second value is below the range, an object is detected. When the transmitter does not switch states between the measurements, and the second value is less than or greater than the range, then no object is detected, as the change in measured value likely resulted from an outside signal.

Abstract: In a metallic structure including a metallic nano-chain with plasmon resonance absorption, a metallic nanoparticle forming the metallic nano-chain is formed in a circular, triangle, or rhomboid shape. The wavelength selectivity can be increased also by forming a closed region by mutually linking all of metallic nanoparticles that are mutually linked with bottlenecks. In a photodetector, a photodetection unit including a current detection probe, a nano-chain unit, and a current detection probe is arranged on a substrate. The nano-chain unit is a metallic structure with plasmon resonance absorption, where metallic nanoparticles are mutually linked with bottlenecks. Each current detection probe has a corner whose tip is formed with a predetermined angle, and this corner is arranged to face the tip of the nano-chain unit, i.e., a corner of the metallic nanoparticle. Photodetection with high wavelength selectivity is performed based on a change in the initial voltage of the current-voltage characteristic.
