Abstract:
A fuel composition has a major portion of hydrocarbons boiling in the gasoline range, at least 1,200 ppm by weight of a detergent, and at least 2,400 ppm by weight of a mineral carrier fluid. The detergent is a hydrocarbyl-substituted amine or polyamine having at least one basic nitrogen. The weight ratio of mineral carrier fluid to detergent of the fuel composition is at least 2:1. Preferably, the detergent is present at a concentration of at least 2,000 ppm by weight, and the weight ratio of mineral carrier fluid to detergent is at least 4:1. Preferably, the detergent is either a polybutene amine or a polybutene succinimide.

A succinimide composition is prepared by reacting a mixture of an alkenyl or alkylsuccinic acid derivative, an unsaturated acidic reagent copolymer, and a polyamine under reactive conditions. The alkenyl or alkyl substituent of the alkenyl or alkylsuccinic acid derivative has a Mn of from 1000 to 5000. The unsaturated acidic reagent copolymer is a copolymer of an unsaturated acidic reagent and an alkylene group. That alkylene group can be an .alpha.-olefin having 8 to 42 carbon atoms, a polyalkylene having from 8 to 28 carbon atoms, ethylene, styrene, 1,3-butadiene, vinyl alkyl ether having at least 3 carbon atoms, or vinyl alkanoate having at least 4 carbon atoms. The polyamine has at least three nitrogen atoms and 4 to 20 carbon atoms. The mixture contains from 0.5 to 10 equivalents of the alkenyl or alkylsuccinic acid derivative per equivalent of unsaturated acidic reagent copolymer and from 0.4 to 1.0 moles of polyamine per equivalent of alkenyl or alkylsuccinic acid derivative plus unsaturated acidic reagent copolymer.

Aminoaromatic ester polylactone aminocarbamates having the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is an alkyl group having from 1 to about 100 carbon atoms or an aralkyl or alkaryl group having from 7 to about 100 carbon atoms;R.sub.2 is an alkylene group of about 2 to 5 carbon atoms;A is a polyamine moiety having at least one basic nitrogen atom;x is an integer from 1 to 25;and y is an integer from 0 to 6. The aminoaromatic ester polylactone aminocarbamates of formula I are useful as fuel additives for the prevention and control of engine deposits.

Disclosed are liquid alkylphenyl poly(oxypropylene) aminocarbamates which do not form a wax when cooled to -40.degree. C. in a 50 weight percent solution with toluene, said aminocarbamates having at least one basic nitrogen and an average molecular weight of about 600 to 6,000 and wherein the alkyl group is substantially straight-chain of from 25 to 50 carbon atoms. Also disclosed are fuel compositions and concentrates as well as lubricating oil compositions and concentrates containing said alkylphenyl poly(oxypropylene) aminocarbamates.

Heavy diesel fuels, especially those containing sulphur and intended for marine or railroad use, are improved by incorporation therein of a combination of a cyclomatic manganese tricarbonyl and an ashless dispersant and optionally an antioxidant. Diesel fuels so modified show improved combustion characteristics and fuel economy.

This invention relates to a process for producing substituted acylating agents by the reaction of an enophile with an ene by the thermal route wherein (a) the molar ratio of the enophile to the ene is at least 3:1 and (b) the reaction pressure is raised to above 20 psig an least after addition of the enophile reaction to the reaction is completed and is maintained substantially constant until at least 80% of the ene reactant has been converted to the corresponding acylating agent. The agents so produced are substantially free of chlorine and can be further reacted with an amine or a hydroxy compound to form a derivative which can be used as an additive for a lubricating oil or a fuel.
