Abstract:
A variable valve operating system assembled in an engine includes a first rocker arm contacting with a valve, a second rocker arm no contacting with any valve, a lost motion spring bringing the second rocker arm into contact with a cam, and switching device for switching the first/second rocker arms to a coupled or uncoupled state. An operation control apparatus for the engine includes element for determining whether or not an engine speed is higher than a first speed at which supply of fuel is allowed to be temporarily stopped, and element for setting a requested quantity of increase/decrease in internal resistance of the engine. When the engine speed is higher than the first speed and an accelerator opening degree is 0%, the switching device switches the first/second rocker arms to the coupled or uncoupled state based on the requested quantity.

A switching rocker arm according to one example of the present disclosure includes an outer arm, an inner arm, a latch and a sleeve. The inner arm can be pivotally secured to the outer arm and have a latch bore. The latch can have a distal end portion and a proximal end portion. The distal end portion can include a latch flat. The sleeve can be one-piece and have a sleeve body that defines a sleeve bore having a sleeve flat. The latch can be received by the sleeve body. The latch flat can be keyed to the sleeve flat.

A cam follower assembly is provided including an improved lubricant flowpath. The assembly includes a generally cylindrical housing including an annular groove adapted to be in communication with a lubricant gallery in an engine block or cylinder head. An axial end of the housing includes skirt portions including openings, and one of the skirt portions includes a first recessed section indented from an outer lateral surface of the housing and extending axially between the annular groove and a respective one of the openings. A pin is mounted in the openings of the skirt portions and has a second recessed section indented from an outer lateral surface of the pin that extends to at least one of the ends of the pin. The second recessed section is in communication with the first recessed section, and a cam roller supported on the pin.
Abstract:
A valve-actuating lever for reciprocating-piston internal combustion engines is proposed, wherein this lever is supported on a cylinder head of the internal combustion engine or a part of this cylinder head, is in active connection with a cam of a camshaft, has an essentially inverted U-shaped cross section, is made from steel sheet metal by a punching, bending, and/or deep-drawing measure, and has, in addition to a support plate (5) for a shaft of a gas-exchange valve or for an intermediate piece, lateral guide cheeks (3, 4). A height of the lateral guide cheeks (3, 4) can be changed with regard to the support plate (5) by an embossing procedure.
Abstract:

Abstract:
A novel cylinder head arrangement for an in-line four cylinder or eight cylinder engine. A modified arrangement allows additional space for installation of wider rocker arm assemblies used for variable valve lift (VVL), cylinder deactivation (CDA) and other types of variable valve actuation (VVA). In one embodiment, cam towers adjacent the end two cylinders are not used. At least one end support is used, which may be an outboard bearing on a camshaft for each end. The wider rocker assemblies may then be installed. In another embodiment, cam towers adjacent the inner two cylinders are eliminated and a single camshaft support piece with a support bearing is installed between the inner cylinders to provide support for the camshafts. The wider rocker assemblies may then be installed on at least one of the middle cylinders. A novel oil control valve operates latches in switching rocker arm assemblies.
