Abstract: A light sensor and a ranging method are provided. The light sensor includes a light source, a sensing sub-pixel, and a control circuit. The sensing sub-pixel includes a diode. The control circuit operates the diode in a Geiger mode or an avalanche linear mode. The control circuit includes a time-to-digital converter, and the time-to-digital converter includes a counting circuit. The counting circuit includes a plurality of counting units. When the time-to-digital converter receives a sensing signal provided by the sensing sub-pixel, the control circuit generates a plurality of count values according to the sensing signal through the counting units of the counting circuit, where the count values are histogram data corresponding to a distance sensing result.

Abstract: Automatic ambient light cancellation for an optical front end. The present disclosure includes a coarse loop and fine loop in a feedback circuit configured to cancel out currents generated by detection of ambient light. An optical front end comprises a single-ended photo-diode connected to a transimpedance amplifier (TIA) followed by a buffer stage to generate differential output. A feedback loop controls a current digital to analog converter (iDAC) which is used to cancel out undesired current (e.g., from ambient light). This results in the TIA from saturating and maintain good signal quality with greater sensitivity.

Abstract: An illumination device comprises one or more emitter modules having improved thermal and electrical characteristics. According to one embodiment, each emitter module comprises a plurality of light emitting diodes (LEDs) configured for producing illumination for the illumination device, one or more photodetectors configured for detecting the illumination produced by the plurality of LEDs, a substrate upon which the plurality of LEDs and the one or more photodetectors are mounted, wherein the substrate is configured to provide a relatively high thermal impedance in the lateral direction, and a relatively low thermal impedance in the vertical direction, and a primary optics structure coupled to the substrate for encapsulating the plurality of LEDs and the one or more photodetectors within the primary optics structure.

Abstract: A laser scanner includes: a light source; a scanning mirror that scans laser light emitted from the light source, toward a target object by oscillating about axis C; a photodetector that generates a photodetection signal upon receiving the laser light reflected from the target object; a controller that controls emission of the laser light by the light source, and that performs sampling on the photodetection signal; and a detector that detects an amount of displacement of the scanning mirror, and calculates a resonant frequency of the scanning mirror based on the amount of displacement detected. The controller determines a time at which the laser light is emitted from the light source and a time at which sampling is performed on the photodetection signal, based on the resonant frequency calculated.
