Abstract:
A fuel injector nozzle and method for dispersing fuel during a normal combustion operation and a supplemental combustion operation, the fuel injector nozzle comprising: a plurality of first outlet openings configured to disperse fuel in a first arrangement; and a plurality of second outlet openings configured to collide with the fuel passing through the plurality of first openings to disperse fuel in a second arrangement, wherein either the first or second arrangement is selected by the position of the piston.
Abstract:
A nozzle (100) for air-assisted atomizing of a liquid fuel comprises a fuel feed passage (110) and an air feed passage (114) and a swirling chamber (118) from which fuel and air may be passed to an exit orifice (126) for emerging a cone shaped spray. An air bypass passage (122) is provided for leading a fraction of the air flow in the air feed passage (114) past the swirling chamber (118) and to an air exit (124) arranged such with respect to the exit orifice (126) that, during operation of the nozzle, air emerging through the air exit (124) reduces depositing of residues of fuel on a downstream surface (130, 132, 136) of the nozzle element (108). Grooves or other flow-guiding elements may confer swirling or rotation of air in or downstream of the air feed passage (114) and/or the air bypass passage (122).
Abstract:
This invention relates to an improved portable system for the delivery of a breathable, fire extinguishing gas mixture to a fire zone. The gas mixture comprises a normally gaseous inert material, such as nitrogen, helium or argon; an oxygen containing gas; and carbon dioxide. The system includes a means for storing or generating the inert material, means for storing the carbon dioxide, means for generating or introducing the oxygen containing gas, and means for mixing the components. The system also includes means for heating, vaporizing and controlling the temperature and proportions of the components.
Abstract:
A modular automatic spray gun manifold is provided. The manifold includes a plurality of spray gun modules arranged in an array in laterally spaced relation from each other. A junction element is arranged at an upstream end of the manifold. The junction element includes a liquid supply connection and a pressurized air connection. A first support assembly is arranged between the junction element and a first spray gun module in the spray gun module array for supporting the first spray gun module relative to the junction element. The first support assembly includes a plurality of fluid conduits for supplying fluid to the first spray gun module. The fluid conduits in the first support assembly communicate with the liquid supply and pressurized air supply connections of the junction element. A second support assembly is arranged between each adjacent pair of spray gun modules in the array of spray gun modules for supporting the adjacent pair of spray gun modules relative to each other. Each second support assembly includes a plurality of fluid conduits for communicating fluid between the adjacent spray gun modules. One or more retaining elements secure the spray gun modules, support assemblies and junction plate in assembled relation.
Abstract:
An external mix air atomizing spray nozzle assembly comprising a nozzle body having liquid and air flow passages, and an air cap formed with an air chamber communicating with said air passage and a plurality of angled pressurized air discharge passages communicating with said chamber at an angle to a central axis of said spray nozzle assembly for directing pressurized air onto a liquid flow stream discharging from said liquid passage. The angled air discharge passages each are defined by a conical indentation in a front face of the air cap and a cylindrical bore communicating in perpendicular relation to a side surface of the conical indentation. The design of the angled air discharge passages permits easy manufacture and design modification for particular spray applications.
Abstract:
Optical elements are made using micro-jet printing methods to precisely control the type, position and amount of polymer deposited onto a substrate. In preferred embodiments, the proportions of two or more different polymer compositions are varied over the course of the deposition process to deposit adjoining polymer pixels in the form of a film on the substrate surface. The optical properties of each adjoining polymer pixel can be selected to provide a predetermined optical property, including a specific value of index of refraction. Preferably, the film has a radially non-monotonic refractive index profile and/or an angularly non-monotonic refractive index profile.
Abstract:

A gas turbine fuel nozzle head includes an outlet passage having a curved annular transitional surface extending smoothly to a substantially radial and annular surface relative to a central axis of the fuel nozzle head, for providing a low cost and compact structure with improved cold start and altitude re-light capabilities.
Abstract:
A vapor horn device for use in an elongated, generally upright mass transfer and/or heat exchange column having an internal region comprises an elongated, generally arcuate wall arranged to be located within the internal region and disposed to extend around a longitudinal axis of the column. The arcuate wall includes an inlet area positioned for being contacted by a vapor or mixed phase stream entering the column and causing the stream to flow along an outer surface of the arcuate wall and generally around the axis. The device also includes a primary elongated vane extending outwardly from the outer surface of the arcuate wall. This primary vane has an inner end located adjacent the outer surface of the inner wall and an outer end disposed in spaced relationship relative to the outer surface of the wall. The vane is disposed at a tangential angle relative to the direction of flow of the stream such that the inner end of the vane is further downstream than the outer end thereof whereby any portion of the stream impinging on the primary vane is redirected toward the outer surface of the arcuate wall. The device also desirably includes one or more vanes that extend radially outwardly from the inner wall.
Abstract:
A nozzle assembly for a HVOF thermal metallic spray coating system includes an inner tube, a middle tube and an outer tube which are concentrically arranged about an axis of the nozzle assembly and are spaced to provide annular, concentric gas flow passages for oxygen and gaseous fuel along with a central wire feed passage in an efficient, compact arrangement. A slotted nib and plug are fitted to the discharge end at the assembly and defined, together with the middle tube, an annular premix chamber for the combustible gases, and a plurality of circumferentially spaced mixing slots and a downstream mix end portion of the nib where complete mixing of the gases occurs prior to entry into the combustion chamber provided in an air cap. An annular passage between the air cap and outer tube communicates with a high pressure air source for establishing an envelope of air against the inside surface of the air cap to serve as a protective barrier layer from the atomized metal.
