Abstract: An electronic device may be provided with a display mounted in a housing. A directional ambient light sensor may measure the intensity and direction of ambient light. The ambient light sensor may be mounted in alignment with a light sensor window formed in an inactive area of the display. The ambient light sensor may be formed from detectors on a semiconductor substrate. Incident light angle restriction structures may define openings for each detector. Each opening may be configured to allow light with a different range of angle of incidence values to be passed to a respective one of the detectors. The ranges of acceptance angle for adjacent detectors may overlap. A sensor may produce a diffuse light reading by processing ambient light data from a diffuse light detector and a directional light detector. The diffuse and directional light detectors may be formed on a common semiconductor substrate.

Abstract: A system in accordance with the present disclosure comprises a sensor and an information processing apparatus that includes processing circuitry. The sensor is installed on a surface so that a detection direction of the sensor is at a non-zero angle from a line normal to the surface. The processing circuitry is configured to communicate with the sensor, calculate a position of a detection area, in which the sensor detects an object in a predetermined space, according to the non-zero angle and a location of the sensor on the surface, and create correspondence information that associates an area of the predetermined space with the detection area.

Abstract: A sensor is disclosed that provides measurements in multiple degrees of freedom without significantly increasing size, complexity, or cost. The sensor can include a light component in support of a first light source operable to direct a first beam of light, and a second light source operable to direct a second beam of light. The sensor can also include an imaging device that can directly receive the first beam of light and the second beam of light and convert these into electric signals. The imaging device and the light component can be movable relative to one another. The sensor can further include a light location module and/or a position module configured to receive the electric signals and determine locations of the first beam of light, the second beam of light on the imaging device and a relative position of the imaging device and the light component.

Abstract: A light detection system may include a light detecting assembly including a plurality of light detectors. Each light detector may include a substrate, a mirror coupled to the substrate, and a light-receiving tube coupled to the substrate. The light-receiving tube may include a sensor positioned at a first end, a light-transmissive opening at a second end that is opposite from the first end, and a plurality of partitions that are configured to block transmission of light energy. A central light path extends through the light-receiving tube. The system may also include a control unit in communication with the light detecting assembly. The control unit is configured to determine one or more of a direction of light emitted from a light source, a position of the light source, or an intensity of light emitted from the light source based on one or more light detection signals received from the light detecting assembly.
