Abstract: One variation of a method for detecting a fire includes: during a first time period: detecting an increase in ambient light intensity and detecting an increase in ambient humidity; responsive to the increase in ambient light intensity and the increase in ambient humidity, detecting a fire event; during a second time period: correlating a decrease in ambient light intensity with an increase in visual obscuration; detecting an increase in ambient air temperature; in response to a magnitude of the increase in visual obscuration remaining below a high obscuration threshold and a magnitude of the increase in ambient temperature remaining below a high temperature threshold, classifying the fire as an incipient fire; and, in response to the magnitude of the increase in visual obscuration exceeding the high obscuration threshold and the magnitude of the increase in ambient temperature exceeding the high temperature threshold, classifying the fire as a developed fire.

Abstract: Apparatuses, methods, and systems are disclosed to characterize the wear and measure temperature of a surface of a lining of a metallurgical container. Wear characterization is accomplished by a scanning device by making thickness measurements of the lining and surface temperature measurements are made using a two-color pyrometer integrated with the scanning device where surface temperature is measured by correlating a ratio of two light intensities to the surface temperature. A controller controls operation of the scanning device and the two-color pyrometer.

In some examples, the ROIC can be capable of dynamically adjusting at least one of the frame rate integrating capacitance, and power of the illumination source.

Abstract: A method of measuring ocular surface temperature includes steps as follows. Using a built-in temperature sensor called a black plate herein, an infrared heat sensor is provided and the temperature sensor contacts the black plate. The temperature sensor measures an actual black plate temperature. The infrared heat sensor detects a radiation emitted by the black plate, and the radiation is computed according to a temperature rising curve through a computing unit of a work station to generate a computed black plate temperature. A value of temperature shifting error is determined by subtracting the actual black plate temperature from the computed black plate temperature.

In one aspect, an infrared detector is provided that includes a pyroelectric sensor; a controller for receiving a trigger signal outputted by the pyroelectric sensor; a thermopile sensor, wherein the controller starts the thermopile sensor after receiving the trigger signal output by the pyroelectric sensor; and an alarm, wherein the controller controls the alarm to generate an alarm signal in response to a determination that a difference between a current temperature and a background temperature detected by the thermopile sensor is larger than a threshold value and a determination that the areas of the thermopile sensor activated correspond to a human being.
