Abstract:
A BFRT cuff and portable electric pump system and a method for exercising using said cuff. The method incudes providing a BFRT cuff and a portable electric pump system, placing the BFRT cuff on a limb of a user, connecting the BFRT cuff to the portable electric pump system, selecting a pressure value or percent of limb occlusion pressure (LOP), causing the portable electric pump system to supply air to the BFRT cuff until the LOP of said limb is obtained, terminating air flow to the BFRT cuff and then reducing the pressure in the BFRT cuff, disconnecting the BFRT cuff from the portable electric pump system, and exercising the limb of the user while the BFRT cuff is at a selected pressure or a selected percent of LOP.

Abstract:
In some aspects, methods are provided for controlling a powered lower limb device. A stance phase control method is disclosed in which the required joint torque is determined based on the difference between two joint angles, such as the knee joint and the ankle joint. A swing control method is also disclosed that employs feedback-based minimum jerk trajectory control. In other embodiments, a joint assembly for use in modular lower limb device is provided. The joint assembly includes a reconfigurable slider-crank mechanism that is configurable to provide a plurality of different ranges of rotational travel, rotational speeds, and torques, for customization according to different anatomical joints. The joint assembly may include a compact coupling device for coupling a ball screw of the slider-crank mechanism to an output shaft of a motor. When employed to form a modular orthosis, the joint assembly may be adapted for self-alignment as its length adjustment method during setup.
Abstract:
A method of controlling a compression device controls a vent phase of a compression device having an inflatable bladder capable of being pressurized for applying compression to a part of a subject's body. The method includes delivering pressurized fluid from a source of pressurized fluid to a first inflatable bladder disposed about a portion of the subject's body and venting the pressurized fluid from the first inflatable bladder by opening a first valve. The method further includes monitoring fluid pressure in the first inflatable bladder during the venting of the first inflatable bladder. Based at least in part on the monitored fluid pressure, the first valve is selectively closed and selectively reopened to control fluid pressure in the first inflatable bladder to remain within a desired residual pressure range.
Abstract:
Methods to collect use data of a user during customized skin care by using a specimen dispensing device are presented. Methods to utilize the embedded memory and electrical interface of the dispensing device and dispensers to collect use data of said user are also presented. The invention may also be applied to health care and personal care needs.
Abstract:
A rehabilitation machine can have a chassis with actuators positioned behind a patient area. The actuators can have supports projecting toward the patient area and can have respective adapters shaped to engage the legs of a patient at the thigh, the calf, and the foot while the patient is in a standing or walking posture. The actuators can also have motors, transition elements, and linkages connected to apply moments through the adapters to achieve, for each leg, hip adduction/abduction, hip flexion/extension, knee flexion/extension, and foot plantar flexion/dorsiflexion according to signals from a controller. The actuators can be confined to a space, largely behind the patient, such that free arm swing is permitted when the patient is attached.
Abstract:
Collection of biological fluids. At least some of the example embodiments are methods including: placing a lower mold component, the lower mold component structurally defines a negative image of an insertion end of a polymeric sleeve; stacking into mating relationship a first disk member, the first disk member structural defines a negative image of an anterior volume vented to atmosphere on the insertion end of the polymeric sleeve; coupling a rod member to the disk member, an exterior surface of the rod member defines a negative image of a main passageway through the polymeric sleeve; closing an outer mold assembly around the rod member, an interior surface of the outer mold assembly structurally defines a negative image of an outer surface of the polymeric sleeve; and injecting a polymeric compound in a liquid state into the outer mold assembly.
Abstract:
An adjustable air bladder apparatus is provided. The apparatus includes an outer enclosure, a first interior section within the outer enclosure that contains a plurality of air bladders, a second interior section within the outer enclosure that contains a support layer, and an air pump pneumatically coupled to the plurality of air bladders, where the air pump is configured to selectively supply pressurized air to the air bladders independently through a pneumatic coupling. The pneumatic coupling includes one or more supply valves, outlet valves, and pressure sensors coupled to each air bladder or to one or more groupings of air bladders. A control device is provided for monitoring the pressure within the air bladders and for controlling an amount of air provided to or released from the bladders or groupings of bladders. A method of providing rolling massage with the apparatus is also disclosed.
Abstract:
A device for use by an individual for sexual pleasure varying in form, i.e. shape, during its use and allowing for the user to select multiple variations of form either discretely or in combination and for these dynamic variations to be controllable simultaneously and interchangeably while being transparent to the normal use of the device, including the ability to insert, withdraw, rotate, and actuate the variable features manually or remotely. According to embodiments of the invention localized and global variations of devices are implemented using fluidics and electromagnetic pumps/valves wherein a fluid is employed such that controlling the pressure of the fluid results in the movement of an element within the device or the expansion/contraction of an element within the device.
