Abstract:
Systems and methods for operating a vending machine and/or kiosk. The methods comprise: detecting a presence of a person in a seat of the vending machine; obtaining a full or partial body heat map for the person that was created based on sensor data generated by at least one sensor of the vending machine or at least one sensor located in proximity to the vending machine (the full or partial heat map showing relative temperatures of different parts of a body of the person); selecting at least one vending service parameter for the vending machine using information obtained based on the full or partial body heat map; and causing the vending machine to provide the person with a vending service in accordance with the at least one vending service parameter that was selected.
Abstract:
The subject matter described herein includes an apparatus and a clutch for using controlled storage and release of mechanical energy to aid in locomotion. One exemplary apparatus includes a frame including an upper portion configured to mechanically couple to a leg of the subject on a calf side of an ankle joint of the subject and a lower portion pivotally attached to the upper portion configured to mechanically couple to a foot of the subject on a foot side of the ankle joint of the subject. The apparatus include a rotary clutch and an elastic element coupled between the upper and lower portions of the frame to control periods of energy storage and release by the elastic element.
Abstract:
A treatment device includes a housing, a motor disposed within the housing, a drive shaft driven by the motor and configured to translate along a first axis, a compression spring concentric with the drive shaft, a helical cam having a flat end, and an irregular end, the drive shaft passing through the helical cam from the flat end to the irregular end, the helical cam being configured for rotational movement, but being prohibited from translation along the first axis, and at least one cam follower directly coupled to, and in contact with, the drive shaft and configured to travel along the helical cam, the at least one cam follower being configured to translate along the first axis.

Abstract:
This invention relates to a robotic exoskeleton comprising mechanical linkages that couple to one or more selected joints of a limb of a subject. The robotic exoskeleton may be provided with means for obtaining data respecting angular position, torque, and/or acceleration of at least one of the joints or the links of the mechanical linkages, and may be used for assessing, studying, diagnosing a deficit, and/or treating an impairment in sensorimotor function of a limb of a subject.
Abstract:
A treatment device includes a housing having a longitudinal axis extending between a proximal end and a distal end, a motor, a drive shaft operatively coupled to the motor, a compression spring at least partially disposed about the drive shaft, a helical cam disposed adjacent the compression spring, the helical cam having at least one discontinuity, a hammer coupled to the helical cam and moveable therewith, and a tip disposed adjacent the distal end.
Abstract:
A method for setting desired trajectories of movement of an exoskeleton for enabling movement in a user with a musculoskeletal disorder, a device for assisting walking in a user and a method for controlling said device enable walking in predetermined modes of movement in a user with limited mobility or complete immobility of the lower limbs but normal functioning of the upper limbs and upper part of the body. The invention enables such users to move with a gait pattern similar to the gait pattern of a person without a musculoskeletal disorder, while also providing the user with the possibility of independently changing movement mode and gait parameters, such as stride length, step height and pace, using a control panel 32. The invention comprises a part worn by the user, which includes a motorized lower limb exoskeleton 1 equipped with a control device 35, embodied in an on-board controller 85 of the exoskeleton 1, and a non-worn part, which includes an external computer 86 for a specialized assistant and a system 43 for determining the parameters of desired trajectories of movement of the exoskeleton 1 in a Cartesian coordinate system. Control signals for the exoskeleton 1 actuators are generated taking into consideration the mass and inertial properties of body segments of the user and of elements of the exoskeleton 1, as well as requirements regarding the quality of control. 3 independent claims and 6 dependent claims, 9 drawings
Abstract:
Systems and methods for inhibiting an occurrence of an apneic or hypoxic event are disclosed. Physiological data is received from a subject and analyzed to detect an impending apneic event or an impending hypoxic event. A stimulation is applied to the subject to inhibit occurrence of the impending apneic or hypoxic event after an occurrence of a predetermined condition. The physiological data can include respiratory data, cardiological data, or a combination thereof. The analyzing includes use of a point-process model and gross body movement data of the subject. Therapeutic effectiveness of the stimulation is increased by accounting for gross body movements of the patient.
