Abstract: A water purification system comprises a bioreaction subsystem receiving contaminated input effluent and having a gas-lift anaerobic membrane bioreactor removing urea and organic matter to create a first effluent. A light-treatment subsystem receives the first effluent and exposes the first effluent to UV light to create a second effluent free from microorganisms. A reactor subsystem fluidically connects an ammonia-reducing reactor to the UV output and receives UV-treated second effluent and has a struvite regenerator connected to the ammonia-reducing reactor output, separating ammonia from the second effluent in the ammonia-reducing reactor, and outputting the ammonia. A separation subsystem fluidically connects to the reactor output and receives the second effluent substantially free from ammonia and has a continuous electro-deionization device separating brine/salts from the second effluent to produce potable water. A closed-loop includes an ammonia-converting subsystem and a sequential fertilizer producer.

Abstract: A swimming pool water sanitizing unit with an ozone generator and a separate ultraviolet (UV) reactor chamber within the same housing unit. The ozone generator may include a water jacket gap between the ozone generator chamber and the outer casing that passes pool water through the gap for cooling. Either of the ozone generator and the UV reactor chamber may include UV intensity sensors to help predict the life of the UV bulb therein. The UV reactor chamber may include rotating water paddle blades to stir up the water within the chamber for enhanced exposure to the UV light. A diverter valve enables diversion of ozone enriched fluid to the pool pump in addition to the UV reactor chamber.

Abstract: A dielectric barrier discharge lamp assembly for a fluid treatment system. The lamp assembly can include an inductive secondary, first and second electrodes coupled to the inductive secondary, and a lamp including a dielectric barrier interposed between the first and second electrodes. The dielectric barrier can define a discharge chamber including a discharge gas, and one of the first and second electrodes can extend within the discharge chamber. The inductive secondary can be adapted to receive power from a nearby inductive primary to promote a dielectric barrier discharge in the discharge chamber. The resulting dielectric barrier discharge can generate ultraviolet light for the treatment of air or water, or for other applications.

Abstract: An apparatus for treating a contaminated fluid has a UV lamp within a tubular housing. A plurality of baffles within the housing create meandering pathways parallel to the lamp for exposing the fluid to the UV light along the entire length of the pathways. A photocatalytic coating on the baffles and inner surfaces of the housing is maintained within a pre-set radial distance, preferably no more than about 75 mm, from the lamp for optimal creation of a photocatalytic reactant. The contaminated fluid flowing through the meandering pathways is maintained in close proximity to the lamp and has adequate time for exposure to the ultraviolet light and photocatalytic reactant for treatment before exiting the housing. The baffles are removably positioned within the housing for convenient maintenance or to alter the length of the pathways, without re-sizing the housing. This apparatus is considered an affordable and compact environmental protection device capable of “redefining pollution control” by potentially mitigating close to 100% of harmful bacteria and toxic compounds.

Abstract: Systems for water treatment include a preprocessing stage, an ultraviolet treatment stage, and a filtering stage. The preprocessing stage includes first and second chambers including first and second filter media. The first and second chambers include perforated plates. The first chamber and second chamber are vertically arranged in a filter tower. The ultraviolet treatment stage receives water in a plurality of reactor tanks. Each reactor tank of the plurality includes an inlet, an outlet, crystal sleeve disposed centrally to the interior of the reactor tank, and a UVC light source contained within the crystal sleeve. A controller operates the ultraviolet treatment stage to sequentially fill each reactor tank and sequentially drain each reactor tank and operates a respective UVC light source to emit UVC wavelength radiation within a respective reactor tank while water is in the respective reactor tank.
