Abstract: The present invention relates to a fluorescent polymer cast on the surface of wells of a plate and a plate comprising the fluorescent polymer. The plate is used in a method for calibrating read-out values of plate readers. The method for calibrating the plate readers can effectively reduce the deviation of read-out values among different plate readers.

Abstract: A method and system for monitoring invasive species in an algal bioreactor utilizes a low resolution Raman spectrometer (LRRS) system and signal processing methods based upon Support Vector Machine (SVM) models. A spectrum preprocessing algorithm transforms LRRS spectra into normalized spectral data vectors. An ex-situ method is used to analyze a calibration set of known samples of a suspension containing a desired biomass, such as spirolina, together with various concentrations of invasive algal or cyanobacterial species. The ex-situ method generates SVM models and their associated SVM support vectors for classification modeling. An in-situ method uses the SVM models to provide an output vector of probability values corresponding to the presence of invasive species in an unknown sample, and optionally to provide an additional output vector of probability values corresponding to concentrations of the invasive species in the unknown sample.

A number of systems are capable of using terahertz signals to generate signals measuring total water content in plant tissue, including plant leaves. Using these signals, methods are capable of determining water status variables, including water mass per leaf area, relative water content, and leaf water potential, which can aid in agricultural, ecological, and environmental health, such as dehydration and droughst stress of plants.

Abstract: An inspection device includes: an illumination device that irradiates standard and inspection objects with near-infrared light; a spectroscope that disperses reflected light; an imaging device that takes images of first and second optical spectrums of the reflected light dispersed by the spectroscope to obtain standard spectroscopic image data and inspection spectroscopic image data; and a processor. The processor executes a predetermined arithmetic operation with regard to at least one of (i) each pixel row of the standard spectroscopic image data perpendicular to a wavelength dispersion direction and (ii) each pixel column of the standard spectroscopic image data parallel to the wavelength dispersion direction. The processor, based on luminance values of pixels belonging to the pixel row or column, determines a characteristic of the pixel row and grasps a wavelength sensitivity characteristic of the imaging element under the near-infrared light emitted from the illumination device.

Abstract: Various embodiments disclosed relate to methods of predicting neutral detergent fiber digestibility (NDFD) properties of a feedstuff sample. A method of predicting neutral detergent fiber digestibility (NDFD) properties of a feedstuff sample includes collecting a near-infrared spectrum of the feedstuff sample to provide NIR data of the feedstuff sample. The method also includes predicting NDFD of the sample at an elapsed time, NDFD rate of the sample, and/or NDFD extent of the sample from the NIR data using a NIR/NDFD calibration model. Various embodiments provide a method of developing the NIR/NDFD calibration model using in vitro gas production (IVGP). Various embodiments provide a method of predicting digestibility of the feedstuff sample for an animal at a rumen passage rate (eNDF).
