Abstract: This disclosure relates to a device configured to wet a biological material with at least one liquid, and a disclosed method relates to wetting biological material with at least one liquid using the disclosed device. A disclosed device includes a moving arrangement and a platform configured to receive at least one, substantially triangular or substantially rectangular slide comprising a biological material. The slide is configured to be movable by the moving arrangement from a parallel incubating position, relative to said platform, into a non-parallel collecting position, relative to said platform. Only a single corner section of slide is positioned such that said liquid is collected in the single corner section. Introducing reagents into a mixing zone of said device and repeatedly moving the slide from the collecting position into a mixing position causes mixing of the reagents to thereby generate the liquid that is configured to wet the biological material.

Abstract: A controlled environment enclosure comprises a robotic arm manipulation system used to protect and unprotect a fluid path and a swab within the controlled environment enclosure. The apparatus allows the fluid path to be protected against dangerous decontamination vapors and chemicals before the controlled environment enclosure is decontaminated. The apparatus allows the fluid path to be unprotected without the use of gloves or other means that degrade the integrity of the controlled environment enclosure when decontamination is completed. The apparatus and method allow for the protecting, unprotecting and decontaminating sequences to be automated. In some embodiments the fluid path comprises a fill needle that can removably and aseptically be sealed with a disposable monolithic injection moulded polymeric fill needle sheath. The apparatus and method further allow for the use of a swab disposed in a swab holder that is aseptically and removably sealable to a swab cap to protect the swab against decontamination vapors.

Abstract: A process module for a biology laboratory system includes a housing, a working deck located within the housing, having working deck plate slots for receiving cell culture plates, a liquid handling robot comprising at least one pipette for aspirating a liquid medium, and a first transfer interface in communication with a first storage module for storing cell culture plates. The working deck is movable to a plurality of working positions. In one of the positions, the cell culture plate is located under an operating point of the liquid handling robot. In another of the positions, the cell culture plate is in alignment with the first transfer interface for transfer of the cell culture plate between an outside of the housing and the working deck plate slot. The first transfer interface or a second interface can be brought in communication with a second storage module for storing lab-ware or liquid material.

Abstract: The present invention involves a fill needle system for aseptically dispensing a pharmaceutical fluid in an aseptic chamber comprises a fill needle tubing in fluid communication with a pharmaceutical fluid source via flexible tubing and extending through a fill needle hub; a fill needle dispensing tip disposed at a dispensing end of the fill needle tubing; a fill needle sheath shaped and arranged to removably mate with and seal aseptically to the fill needle hub to form an aseptically sealed volume enclosing the dispensing tip; and a fluid pressure pulse induction system disposed and configured to compress the flexible tubing in order to dislodge droplets of pharmaceutical fluid retained on the dispensing tip after halting dispensing of the pharmaceutical fluid. An associated method of dispensing pharmaceutical fluid comprises operating the fluid pressure pulse induction system to dislodge the droplets. The system may comprise a controller for automatically controlling the dispensing and droplet dislodging.

Abstract: A well plate includes a frame section that defines a plane, and a plurality of well structures. Each well structure extends in a direction away from the plane defined by the frame section, and each well structure defines a well for holding a fluid. The well plate further includes an artifact connected to at least one well structure. The artifact uniquely identifies a type of the well plate among other types of well plates. Along these lines, a result of a well plate type identification operation, which indicates whether the well plate includes the artifact, may determine whether a predefined pressure is applied to the well plate to facilitate fluid sampling in response to the result, whether fluid level sensing can be performed to gauge amounts of fluids drawn from the wells and/or identify how much fluid is left in the wells, etc.
