Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a solubilizing agent capable of solubilizing hydrophobic substances and useful in e.g. producing homogeneous pharmaceutical preparations by using a copolymer formed by grafting specific monomer(s) to a polyalkylene oxide. SOLUTION: This solubilizing agent is obtained by using a graft copolymer formed by grafting to (A) a polyalkylene oxide (pref. with a number-average molecular weight of 300-100,000) (B) at least one monomer selected from the group consisting of (i) monoethylenically unsaturated 3-8C carboxylic acid 1-30C alkyl esters, (ii) aliphatic 1-30C carboxylic acid vinyl esters, (iii) 1-30C alkyl vinyl ethers, (iv) monoethylenically unsaturated 3-8C carboxylic acid N-1-30C alkyl-substituted amides, and (v) monoethylenically unsaturated 3-8C carboxylic acid N,N-1-30C dialkyl-substituted amides.

Abstract: Additives for increasing the solubility of washing powder formulations in water, added in amounts of 0.1-10 wt.%, comprise crosslinked alkoxylated alcohols prepared either by alkoxylating an alcohol with ethylene oxide (EO) and optionally propylene oxide (PO) and/or butylene oxide (BO) and then cross-linking the alkoxylated alcohol with an at least bifunctional crosslinking agent. Preferably reaction products of polyalkylene glycols with 2-6C alkylene glycol bisglycidyl ethers, or reaction products of polyethylene glycols having a weight average molecular weight of 100-2500 with a butane-1,4-diol glycidyl ether are used. The alkoxylation reaction products are addition reaction products of 1-100 moles EO, 0-30 moles PO and 0-10 moles BO with 1 mole of 1-22C alcohol. The amount of additive added is 0.5-5 wt.%. The washing powders have bulk weights of 550-1000 (at least 700) g/l.

Abstract: The invention relates to the use of copolymers consisting of (a) between 10 and 95 weight % of at least one non-ionic monomer which has a N-vinyl group and at 25 DEG C has a water solubility of at least 60 g/l, (b) between 5 and 90 weight % of at least one hydrophobic monoethylenically unsaturated monomer which at 25 DEG C has a water solubility of less than 60 g/l, and possibly (c) between 0 and 15 weight % of at least one monoethylenically unsaturated monomer having an ionic or ionisable group and (d) between 0 and 10 weight % of at least one monomer which has at least 2 ethylenically unsaturated groups. Said copolymers are used in detergents, in amounts of between 0.1 and 5 weight % in relation to said detergents, as additive which inhibits greying and promotes dirt removal during washing and as a secondary treatment agent for laundry.
