    Abstract: The invention relates to the use of copolymers consisting of (a) between 10 and 95 weight % of at least one non-ionic monomer which has a N-vinyl group and at 25 DEG C has a water solubility of at least 60 g/l, (b) between 5 and 90 weight % of at least one hydrophobic monoethylenically unsaturated monomer which at 25 DEG C has a water solubility of less than 60 g/l, and possibly (c) between 0 and 15 weight % of at least one monoethylenically unsaturated monomer having an ionic or ionisable group and (d) between 0 and 10 weight % of at least one monomer which has at least 2 ethylenically unsaturated groups. Said copolymers are used in detergents, in amounts of between 0.1 and 5 weight % in relation to said detergents, as additive which inhibits greying and promotes dirt removal during washing and as a secondary treatment agent for laundry.

    Abstract: The invention concerns a process and device for the continuous preparation of N-acylaminocarboxylic acids and N-acylaminosulphonic acids and their alkali metal salts from the alkali metal salts of aminocarboxylic acids and aminosulphonic acids and carboxylic acid halides in a reactor taking the form of a closed circuit. According to the invention the reactants are fed into the closed circuit for immediate reaction and part of the product solution corresponding to the amount fed in is continuously channelled out of the closed circuit. The reactants are circulated by a circulating pump. The temperature in the reactor is controlled and the heat generated during the reaction is expelled.

    Abstract: Hydroxyalkylaminocarboxylic acid derivatives of formula (I) R -CH(OH)-CH(R )-N(R )-Y-COOM (I) are used as dispersing agent in dyestuffs or in preparations containing UV absorbers or optical brighteners. In (I), R and R = H, aryl, alkyl or alkenyl and the alkyl or alkenyl groups may be substituted with 1,2 or 3 residues selected from aryloxy or alkoxycarbonyl and/or interrupted by 1, 2, 3,4 or 5 non-adjacent O atoms, or R and R together with the groups to which they are bound may form the residue of a mono- or polyunsaturated fatty acid which forms, by way of an ester bond, part of a triglyceride, this triglyceride, depending on the original number of double bonds in its fatty acid residue, having up to 9 groups of formula (I), R = H, alkyl, -CHR -CH(OH)-R (IIa) or -(CH2)n-COOM (IIb) (where n = a whole number 1-4, R and R = as for R and R , and the sum of the C atoms in R , R , R and R = at least 4), Y = alkylene which may be substituted by an OH group and/or a group of formula COOM), or R and Y may together complete a 5- or 6-membered, saturated or unsaturated heterocyclic ring and M = H, alkali(ne earth) metal, ammonium or substituted ammonium. Also claimed is use of (I) in dye baths for dyeing with dispersion dyes using the exhaustion process, in dye baths for dyeing with vat dyes and in textile treatment liquors containing UV absorbers or optical brighteners.
